So we just put together a 258 jeep motor that was taken apart for head work and all new seals etc. the motor did not knock at all prior to work. Everything went back together nicely. We inspected all lifters and soaked all before install. Everything seem good then when we fired it up we are getting a bad tick. Let it run for 10 minutes or so, still ticked. Took valve cover off and and sure enough the intake on number 2 is loose. We double check push rod length, and look at the rocker arm and reinstall... Still really sloppy when the valve is closed.
What could be the problem? When the lift comes up just a touch it is solid all the way through except the very last second.... Again visual inspection showed no damage and cam shaft face wear was the same as all other lifters....
Any thoughts? I sure hope it is not a bad lifter and will require a new cam etc.
