Didn't know this could happen on a Dana 35

lundi 31 août 2015

So I went wheeling down at the Badlands in Attica, IN, going through some rocks and climbs and I get through them and notice some vibration when I was driving. Get out and take a look , both U bolts on the passenger side rear axle are broke and the pinion is pointing up to the sky instead of at the back of the T-case. The axle tube and spring perch on the driver side are in their correct place (U bolts are intact on that side) but the differential housing and axle tube on the passenger side and clocked about 10-15 degrees from where they should be. I've heard that when they built the dana 35 they press fit the tubes in the carrier and tac weld it in place. Has anyone ever twisted the axle tube in the carrier before? Can it be twisted and clocked back to its correct spot and just weld the living crap out of it?

Would of thought the shaft would of snapped (ya know something not too bad to fix) but of course not :brickwall

Value of 79 CJ5 Renegade

Got a question on getting some type of value on my 79 CJ5 Renegade.

It's completely orignal. Original paint 50920 miles. 304 Engine 3 speed transmission. It has pretty much been stored for the last 15 years. I acquired it about 3 years ago. Put new brakes on it. Changed the fluids. Put a new battery in and it fired right up.

There are a couple of rust spots on it, the frame looks to be in really good shape. I thought about restoring it, but am wondering if I decide to sell it, should i just leave it alone since it is all original? Not sure if it matters, but I would hate to start changing stuff on it, if it's worth more as an original.

Can anyone help me get an idea on what its worth as it sits? Here are some pic and a few where there is some rust.
Thanks.

Best top Window film?

Hey guys, I just got a bestop soft top for my 1992 jeep yj and have heard that the windows tend to scratch pretty easily. Seeing as this is my camping rig and my jeep will have some beautiful Arizona brush pinstriping I was wondering if there was any way to further protect my plastic windows.

My idea was to get some of the clear VPS (vehicle protection screen), that they use on the front of newer cars to protect from paint chips ect., and put it on my soft top windows.

Will it stick? Has anyone done this/ is it worth it? Is there any other ways to protect the windows?

The material I would be using is this...

2014 GC Limited ....options for after market H11 HID halogen bulbs?

Howdy all

Proud owner of a 2014 GC LE purchased over the weekend (Pre-certified from Jeep dealer). Traded my 2005 high mileage Acura MDX for the WK2.

Other car in the househould is a 2011 X5 Diesel with LED lights.

Not looking for LED kits for my Jeep but looking for HID style halogen lights (plug-n-play).

Did some research here which led to the the Osram Nightbreaker H11 and Amazon has good reviews. However, the bulb has a real short life span and some reviews indicate burning out as under as 6 months :eek:!
http://ift.tt/1IBcfW9

Does anyone know of any other options that gives whitish, brighter luminosity than the stock bulbs with almost the same life scan as stock bulbs?

Cheers!

PS: On the same note, ordered the Iconix CXV running boards today as well so hoping to spend the long weekend installing that puppy!

Help! Michelin Defender LTX M/S

Alright, been buying tires most of my life and it never gets easier. :D

My WK is up for tires and it's one of my wife's daily drivers. Rarely tows anything and it's mostly city/highway driving. It has had the stock Good Year Fortera's and the Bridgestone Revo's.

I'd like to try out the new BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2's on it. They have an OEM size (245/65/17) coming out any day now. Aesthetically, the tire look awesome, but I'm afraid that the ride will be too harsh considering it's a Load E tire and the tread pattern is overkill for it's purpose. For what it's worth, I'm up in the Pacific NW. Mostly rain with the occasional snow unless you go over the passes.

I did see that Michelin is updating their LTX MS line with a new Defender LTX M/S. Supposedly longer tread life, I think it's 70K. Basically, an updated rubber compound. They have a 255/65/17 that would work. Standard load.

Bottom line, I like the look of an all-terrain tire. I've had Good Year Duratracs, BFGoodrich All-Terrains KO, Revo's, Cooper....and a few others over the years. But I'm hoping there's a more "civil" tire for daily driving out there that I don't know about with an all-terrain vibe.

So are there any other suggestions out there? Michelin LTX A/S2?

Thanks!

Flat tow question

Technical towing question here.

My jeep is a 2006 Rubicon LJ with the stock 6 speed mercedez manual transmission and the stock NVG 241OR RockTrac Transfer Case. These are the same used on current JK's.

I am about to have my jeep transported via family to my new home which is roughly a 2200 mile trip being flat towed behind a pick up truck.

Normally this would be strait forward however due to a yoke failure the front drive shaft has been removed. From what I understand the transfer case is self lubricating which doesn't require drive shaft removal for flat tows but i don't know if this process requires both drive shafts being installed. I guess if it does I could just have the rear shaft removed as well. Technical experts appreciated.

WJ Limited Dash vents blocked

Hi All,

I recently picked up a 2003 WJ limited to use as a camping rig.

Have been trying to discern the HVAC issue.

The mode door seems to work, but I get very little air flow from the defrost, floor or center vents, and the outside vents, have essentially no air flow,

I'm getting both cool and hot, and the fans seems to run loud, but no air flow.

I tried the code procedure from WJ jeeps, and don't get any codes, just get the number zero on the right side, and twisting the knob, just moves it between 0 and 89,

I hear groaning when I cycle the recirc button. thanks in advance for any guidance

SRT Wheels. Tire Question

So I acquired myself a set of SRT wheels over the weekend. I have started doing research on what size to put on them. I have factory ones so they are staggered, so I will be doing staggered tires on my AWD truck in similar fashion to the factory SRT8 trucks.

My question is, I will not be going with the OEM size that came on the SRT's they are much to expensive. I was thinking of going with a combination of either a 255/45R20 and a 275/40R20, or a 275/45R20 and a 295/40R20. I am leaning initially more towards the first combination as its not huge, but was wondering if anyone had input as to the best sizes to run. I think the sizes are slightly different from each other in total height, but I believe the factory combo 265/45R20 and 285/40R20 are also slightly different height to.

Thanks guys.

2008 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 Starting up Issue

Having an issue getting Jeep to crank over. Started with Battery. It tested fine. Then I pulled out and replaced the starter. At that point it cranked over and I got the jeep home. I restarted it a couple times without issue after arriving. Later that night i noticed the light was still on from the radio. I has to manually turn it off whereas it usually turns off after key is taken out of ignition and door opens. Today after successfully driving it to work it won't crank over again. Do I have an electrical problem? A fuse maybe?

Dana 30 axle shaft

Hi everybody today I am replacing the u-joints on my dana 30 front axle. I pulled everything off including the hub and removed the axle shaft. There is this gear right behind the outer splines of the shaft and I was wondering if someone could tell me what it is, I don't know if its part of the hub or the axle shaft and is it possible to remove it from the shaft? The gear is also cracked and looks like it's a little bent near the crack. I hope this isn't going to be a big issue because I need to try to get this together as fast as possible. Thanks in advance!

Rebuilt Holley 1940 engine now rich and rough running

I rebuilt the Holley 1940 carburetor on my 78' CJ5 and now the engine is running very rich and rough like it has a racing cam.
1. All new spark plugs are black from running rich.
2. Exhaust is gassy and some black smoke.
3. Turning the fuel/air mixture screw has no effect.
4. New gaskets are not blocking any holes.
5. Using the old or new jets has no effect.
6. Have a new fuel pump without a regulator.
7. Engine revs up but never smooths out.

Maybe now's the time to upgrade to the Weber 2 bbl?

Thanks for any help.

89 exhaust help

So it's been a while since I've been on the forums and I totally posted this in the wrong place yesterday.

I'm helping a friend with his new to him Wrangler and the exhaust system is a mess. I was wondering if it's worth looking for a header or should we stick with a stock exhaust system? Does anyone know where we can find the exhaust header/manifold and basically the whole system? It has the 4.2 carbureted engine and a five speed.

ECU got wet, what year ECUs will work for it?

So something isn't right with my ECU, it hasn't idled correctly ever since let the GF pressure wash the engine bay after a race.. (Worst mistake of my life) and ever since then it hasn't run right. I have replaced everything when it comes to ignition system and fuel delivery. Flushed fuel lines, drained fuel cell, replaced all injectors, replaced everything from spark plugs to all the sensors on the throttle body, and cleaned throttle body. I am at a loss as to what else it could be. Its like its choking when its idling. when you get on the grass it seems to run a little better but it is in no way drivable right now.

So, we have decided to replace the ECU. Its the only other thing we think it could be. I noticed today that it's almost like someone stuck a second sticker on it like they were trying to cover up the original? Or maybe the factory did this. Here are pictures of said Jeep and ECU before and after pulling the overlapping sicker off.

So my question is, what ECUs will work with this Jeep, and does it have to be from this exact year and model? (04 Rubi) or can it be from any TJ as long as it's the newer style gauge cluster (02+ I think?)

Thanks guys!

cj turn signal failure

I've been searching for this problem on the forum and can't find any threads on it.
My turn signals just stopped working one day. I replaced the flasher and the turn signal switch in the column and no turn signals. lights work, brake lights work, hazard lights work.
I noticed the front side markers flash alternate to the front signal lights with the hazards on and the rear side markers don't flash alternate the brake lights.
Any suggestions ?

pump gas pedal to start

2005 Grand Cherokee Limited
5.7L HEMI
Auto transmission
4WD
157,000 miles

This started about 2 years ago, we've had a couple mechanics look at it but weren't able to diagnose the issue and I wasn't real interested in paying them untold amounts of money to try everything under the sun.

1) When you fillup with gas, you can only get about .5gallon at a time to go in. There is a vacuum somewhere so you're just filling up the neck, letting it go down, and put in another half gallon at a time.
2) When you start the car AND it has been run within the last 6 hours, it will crank and crank and crank and crank. You have to push the accelerator pedal and pump it like a carb car and after about 3 seconds of doing that it will fire. If you turn the car off then back on within 10 minutes it's fine. But if it's longer than 10 minutes, and less than 6 hours, same issue occurs. If it sets longer than 6 hours it fires right up.
3) Rough idle and when it's really cold out (below freezing) the car will die when you come to a stop the first time, then you restart the car and it'll still be a rough idle but won't die again. We live on gravel and a stop sign a couple miles down the road with no traffic so when we drive down the road, stop, it dies, restart, and we're fine the rest of the trip so it hasn't been a safety issue.

What I have done:
Disconnected the tube going into the fuel vapor canister from the gas tank.
This allowed us to fillup with gas with no interruption but had no impact on the starting issue. It also causes the gas cap light to come on.

I reconnected that.

If I disconnect the 2 tubes going into the vapor recirculation solenoid up by the motor the 1 tube sucks air hard, the other doesn't. The tube sucking air goes to the motor (this all seemed legit). With this off the solenoid the above issues nearly go away but not completely. Idle is better, starts with just a slight tap of the gas pedal every time (as opposed to pumping the gas pedal for 3 seconds), and fills up with gas properly.

So I replace the solenoid and it didn't help at all. All the prior issues came back immediately as if I put the old solenoid back in.

I don't get a CEC light or anything like I would expect if the solenoid wasn't communicating with the computer.

Not real sure what to try now. With the car on and the solenoid tubes disconnected I tried blowing/sucking on the 2 ports on the solenoid that allows airflow and couldn't get any kind of airflow. With the car running the tubes disconnected it idles much better, as soon as I put the tubes up to the solenoid to reconnect them you get the rough idle instantly again.

It sure seems like air isn't moving through the solenoid even with a brand new one.

Any ideas on what I can try?

99 Cherokee electrical woes

This vehicle is 1800 miles away, so I can't look at or test anything on it. I have to go by what my daughter is saying. She is semi-mechanical, so I trust she is explaining it well enough.

Within a couple of days, the front driver-side and passenger side windows are non-functional, blinkers dont work, gauges, speedometer, oil, fuel are non functional. (she is trusting the distance til empty digital readout on the ceiling mounted information panel)

Being that all of these items went kaput at virtually the same time, could there be a single relay or fuse that pertains to these systems? Daughter checked the fuses inside the front passenger side panel and all look fine.

Thank you

-Drew

radiator leak: Firestone or Jeep OEM replacement

I noticed that my Jeep has radiator leak, not dripping but just enough to drop the fluid level once a week. I'm leaning toward the Jeep dealership replacing with a OEM replacement, but am also considering Firestone with an OEM style replacement, which may be a NAPA branded radiator. Any experience with Firestone radiators? I may just go with OEM for piece of mind.

thanks,

TDK frame fitment question(s)

I incorrectly assumed that the shock mounts would have had the studs already in them. Have you guys just used a bolt and a spacer and tacked it onto the mounts?

Did you run into any interference between the frame and the power steering lines since the frame does not have the notch in it like the factory one did?

I am also wondering if the holes for the front axle bump stops are in the right place. The front section of the frame has a different shape the the OEM frame but they have the stops going on the curved section?

Unfortunately finding "little" things as I go that are not as ready to go as Jeremy had lead me to believe. Things like the fact that they used a tubular cross member but didn't stick a tab off the back to hold the brake line.

4L Linkage question

Hey guys.. Okay so bought this jeep about 2 months ago. It is perfect in every way! however, 4L is a bit of a pain.. after having it keep popping out of 4L I did my research and went ahead and worked on adjusting the linkage (didnt fix it) after crawling around a bit I noticed that towards the front of the linkage the bell crank is unable to rotate to the full position (4L) because of a bolt head sticking out just enough to limit movement... curious if anyone has had or heard of this problem... and what would be the best way to go about fixing it? If the bell crank piece was more straight rather then designed with the bend in it, it looks like it would work.. just curious as to why the design is the way it is... thanks for all the help. I hope you can decipher what I am talking about with the pictures..

Antifreeze for 2.5l 99 mod

Hi.

Ive just flushed the system on my 99 mod 2.5l. It had green coolant. What antifreeze to use now? I am situated in Norway so the selection is limited. Heres what people I've talked with recommendations:

- Green coolant(brand: ProMeister). Based on ethylen glykol. Does not contain amine, phosphate or nitrite.

- Red coolant(brand: ProMeister). Its a Si-OAT based coolant.

What about the regular Castrol Radical? What are your recommendations?

Thanks,

Auto Trans playing up

I have a 99 Classic that I rebuilt approx 3 years ago.

http://ift.tt/1Ev9FGm

The trans has started playing up, sometimes it will not go into top and lock down, it seems the slightest touch on the throttle and it will kick down, also occasionally it seems to hit a false neutral as its changing up.

It runs on 265 x 70 x 16 tyres, roughly equivalent to 31.5s.

Have reset the kick down cable.

Filter changed at rebuild, fluid is good.

Temp has no affect.

Jeep 4.7 o2 sensors issue

Hopefully someone could help me on this one. I am getting a check engine light with codes p0141 and p0161which are the rear o2 sensors. I just think its odd that out of nowhere both rear sensors have a problem at the same time.

Just replaced my nss and I want to clear something up

I don't know about the 4.0 but on the 5.2 you WILL need a catch pan to do this job. 1 1/2 - 2 quarts of fluid will come out.

Before I changed it I did some research on here and read a couple of posts from people who said they don't remember any fluid coming out and a few posts that said nothing comes out. Imagine my surprise when I unscrewed the last couple threads and fluid came gushing out.

Other than that it was super simple. However the bolt from my trans pan sticks up just far enough to block the socket from going over the nss. I just loosened it up a bit and the rest was straight forward, minus the surprise fluid change.

Service Shops in Las Vegas

I'm sure this is an easy topic for some, but I'm a new 2014 Jeep Cherokee Overland owner and my interview experience with the Sahara dealership was less than stellar. I am on the southwest side of town and interested in local, reputable and honest Jeep service centers to have my regular maintenance done. Also, if any upgrading were to take place such as springs, wheel spacer install, etc, who would you recommend.

I appreciate it, Google search is coming up limited and know that the experts would weigh in.

Thanks in advance,

High Mileage 2014 - Should I Avoid?

Hi, I am looking for a JGC for around 35K and would like to get into a 2014 model. I found one listed that is right in the ballpark price-wise, and is a Overland Hemi as well. It does have about 36K miles on it, and Carfax shows it was sold at auction as a "manufacturer owned" model. I drive a relatively short distance to work, so I am not worried about it having a few miles to start as I won't add many every day. Are there issues I should be on the lookout for? I assume that if it's been driven 36K miles, maybe any issues would have been worked out by now, but if it was manufacturer owned, maybe that is not a safe assumption. These are really sharp vehicles, but the reliability concerns me!

NOOB JK Wrangler Unlimited Mod Questions

I recently purchased a JK Wrangler Unlimited Sport. This is a daily driver and light trail work for camping. I am looking at purchasing quadratech led head lights and fog lights to replace the stock lamps. Any idea on the quality of these lamps and if they are worth the upgrade? Money better spent elsewhere? I do a lot of night driving and the stock lamps are inadequate.
Second I am looking to add side steps to the Jeep and looking for advice between Quadratech vs. Mopar. Obviously there is a cost difference, but looking for advice. Thanks in advance.

WTF holes developed on muffler!

Radio Wiring...

So my radio was jacked a while back but the thieves were kind enough to disconnect everything rather than cutting or pulling.... I have a new Sony radio and can't for the life of me figure out why there's only 2 soundbar wires-at least I think that's what they are, rather than 2 wires for each soundbar speaker (2 speakers).... And with that type of connector, do I just cut it off and splice the bare wire Into the harness? Here is a pic... Thanks in advance! Attachment 2356682

4000+RPM Idle

So my daughter bought a 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L with a bad engine. I was able to start it a couple times before realizing that they (previous owners) had ruined the engine. It was idling fine when I was able to start it.. So anyway, I changed the engine with one that had only 130k. Here's the main problem... When I first started the engine the quickly ran up to 4000RPM, when I touched the gas pedal to get it to go down, it went up to 5000RPM. I don't let it run any longer than about 45 seconds.
What could it be ?? ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

CEL engine code P0390 & P0394

Alright, I have question for those with the newer JKs. My Buddy has a 2013 and is constantly getting P0390 and P0394. It goes into LIMP mode, he resets and it's good until he gets to highway speed and it does it all over again.
FYI he has had the head and valve train done.

I have checked the codes and they are both for the Cam Position Sensor .. I am wondering what others have found to be the problem. Is it a bad sensor or something that causes the sensor to give a error message.

Rear wiper park problem

Been awhile since I last posted, I usually just fix my issues but this one is a pain. 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee btw. The rear wiper died a nasty death, the worm drive gear ate the driven plastic gear thus ending its usefulness. The wife drives this rig and she doesn't like not having a rear wiper. I went and got another rear wiper motor assembly from the local salvage yard. Being a used part I cracked it open, cleaned the bit of corrosion that was starting on the shaft, relubed and reassembled. Works awesome but...... When the wiper is shut off and it tries to park, the little dealie on the wiper arm catches on the park ramp and it all stalls out.

I suspect this is what ruined the original one so I repositioned the arm so it will park with the dealie just touching the ramp. This is temporary of course because the wife had to get to work and its raining out and I wanted her to at least be able to use the jeep and its awesome working rear wiper. I was thinking I could see about smoothing the park ramp as is might have a ridge or something but I figured there might be a solution here. The wife is fine with it as is but with the wiper repositioned like it is we can't use the glass hatch and frankly it kind of bothers me seeing that wiper not in its park position.

Low Idle / Running Rough

1995 Grand Cherokee 4x4 5.2L V8. It is always fine on a cold start, and sometimes it won't have any issues all day. Occasionally when warm it will start to idle really low, stall out sometimes, run rough, jerky etc. I have a brand new O2 sensor, IACV, fuel filter, O2 sensor, and TPS sensor already installed on the vehicle and nothing seemed to help. I was thinking maybe the fuel pump but it only happens when warm so I don't think that is the case. CPS maybe? Anyone have a similar issue?

1989 exhaust help

I'm helping a friend with his new to him Wrangler and the exhaust system is a mess. I was wondering if it's worth looking for a header or should we stick with a stock exhaust system? Does anyone know where we can find the exhaust header/manifold and basically the whole system? It has the 4.2 carbureted engine and a five speed.

Bolt sleeve tech

This is a very simple concept that even very smart folks seem to struggle with, to the point that even though they "understand" it, they don't understand it enough to trust it.

So, I've devised a simple illustration and I've got some questions ahead of time to see what folks think will happen versus what really happens.

I took a 1" x .120 piece of tube 2.060" long which means it has a 3/4" hole in it and I bolted it between 2 floating side plates out of 3/16" x 2" rectangular strap. The other ends of the strap have 1 1/4" holes in them to slide over a piece of 1 1/4" solid round bar stock that has a 2" lift tab welded to it.

The holes for the bolt are 3/8" and the bolt is a simple grade 8 LE bolt with coarse threads, no washers and a grade 8 nyloc nut. The holes are exactly the distance from the end of the strap or 1/2" so when the sleeve is flush to the end, the bolt is in the center of the hole which provides a 3/16" air gap all the way around the bolt to the inner wall of the sleeve.

The bolt was torqued to 45 ft. lbs.

When I start lifting the front of the Jeep off the ground, will the bolt sleeve move?

Help

Hello everyone. I'm David and I have a 97 wrangler 4 cyl. Recently my jeep has been idling rough and the 'check gauges' light will come on. When this happens, the voltmeter will drop to zero. The alternator has been checked and is good. Thank you for reading.

Front Driveshaft issues...

So my jeep has always made weird noises since the day I bought it. I thought something was messed up in the front axle or something. I drove it anyways for 6,000 miles like that, and last night when I was cruising on really soft, sandy roads, it sounded like my whole front end was howling and it smelled weird. So I got out, got underneath, and a red hot glob of something dripped from the area where the front DS goes into the transfer case (242). It smoked like crazy and was way too hot to touch. The transfer case itself wasn't too hot, though. So I disconnected my front DS, cooled it down and threw it in the trunk.
What happened here, and how would you guys go about fixing this? Can I convert it to a u-joint style deal, or is it more reasonable to just replace it with the same style thing?

Interior LED's stay on

Hey all, yesterday I replaced my interior lights with LED's. Initial thoughts are great, they're much brighter than the stock bulbs and I like the white light over the factory yellow.

I noticed that the rear courtesy and tailgate bulbs are remaining partially on, even when the car is off. They're not completely on, it's a dull glow at only about 5% brightness and will flicker as if they're trying to turn off but can't. It seems to be intermittent and doesn't happen all the time. They will occasionally tun all the way off. I took a 30 min drive last night and one side stayed on while the other side was completely off.

Has anyone experienced this or heard of this happening with LED lights?

72-75 parts cj5

I'm looking for a 72-75 cj5, somewhere near the Shenandoah valley. I don't need any of the drive train or frame and suspension, although that's totally fine if it's a complete jeep :) I need a body (in good shape), interior stuff all the little odds and ends. I'm having a hard time finding parts for my rebuild and if there's a decently priced jeep out there I wanna buy it for extra parts and stuff. Thanks.

Anyone with long term E85 experience?

PLEASE if you don't have E85 experience, do not post nonsense in this thread. I know how E85 is a bad word around the Jeep world, but I'm here to properly educate myself about the fuel, not hear uneducated opinions that I've seen on other threads and websites. Don't always believe what warning stickers tell you. If we did we'd all have stock Jeeps and drive 10 under the speed limit when it sprinkles out.

Now with that out of the way... I've been looking a lot into ethanol fuels and how many people say they've put it in their 90's vehicles for years now with no issues and zero conversion kits. Yet there's also plenty of people who say they did it and it did every imaginably bad thing to their car. The thing is after ruling out the rednecks shouting "use real fuel! stop hurting corn! it's cool to kill the world!" all over the internet it seems like there's a good bit more saying they've used it for years and have had zero issues other than a check engine light. So here I am just wanting to see if anyone has any personal experience? Mainly with anything using the Jeep 4.0L engine but any experience is better than none. What changed, what didn't, did anything break, did anything improve, did you end up using a conversion it, etc.

trans support w/engine out -- unistrut bracket

The engine is out of my 01 wj, & the 42re supported on jack stand. I'd like to support the trans so the wj can be rolled around or towed. I was thinking of making a bracket the attached to the 42re housing then reached up to the motor mount bolts. Should be fairly straight forward with unistrut sections.
IS there a common method used for support a trans when the engine is out to allow rolling the car?
Am I nuts with the idea?

Thanks for any ideas

05 Sport Running an 05 Renegade Hood

Does anybody know the exact parts that would need to be changed to be able to use the 05-06 Libby Renegade hood and grille on an 05 Libby Sport? It appears as if the hood and grille is all I would need (maybe grille support too), but that's coming from my inexperienced and less knowledgable eyes.
I'm very determined to get the flat hood and grille on to the point that I've considered selling my sport to get the renegade, but I would much rather not have to go through that process. I have surfed the web endlessly attempting to find answers, but have not found actual firm answers, only opinions and assumptions.
Thanks you.

Looking into a used XJ for wife.

So I have a WJ and looking at a used 2000 XJ for my wife, however what is the average value? The dealer wants $5800, however its a 4DR RWD Sport with 142k, to me this sounds highly over priced. I looked up the value and KBB says its retail is approx $3500. Is there something about the XJs that i dont know about and why dealers think they can jack up the prices? Ive attached the link to the vehicle in question. Any insight would be appreciated.

• Just under 80,000 original miles (this is a good and bad thing, please read everything!)
• 3.5” Rough Country Lift with other awesome components (Iron Rock Offroad and more)
• 31” BF Goodrich AT tires (Put on at 71k miles)
• Automatic Transmission shifts flawlessly and doesn’t “hunt” or leak
• Comes with a full size spare and the original gold rims with new 27” tires (Stock size) (so you get two full sets of tires with full size spares for each set)
• Clean Interior (Grey Leather without tears) (it’s all original and not hacked up like other Jeeps)
• New speakers all around (Nothing fancy or crazy loud)
• Recently replaced ALL of the brake components (Pads, rotors, drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, star adjusters, and soft lines)
• JCR Rear bumper (Has the 2” hitch with working wiring harness and extra strength tie-in brackets)
• New axle stubs and wheel bearings up front
• New all aluminum radiator and water pump (stays nice and cool)
• Newer starter with lifetime warranty
• Heater works great

• Has the original roof rack cross bars
• Engine was replaced at 55k with factor fresh 4.0l (ATK motor AS SCENE in Jeep Magazines)(Professionally done)(Original motor had sat a long time while it was with the original owner)(That’s why it has soooo low miles)
• Upgraded Headlights and harnesses (Uses a simple H4 bulb and is nice and bright)
• Comes with a trunk full of recovery goodies (Hi-lift jack, D-rings, toe straps, etc.)
• Limited package: leather seats, cruise control, compass, nicer radio, pin stripes, ABS
• Has NP242 Transfer case with Fulltime 4X4
• Always used Amsoil full synthetic (I will even throw in a new case of Amsoil and a filter)
• Comes with all paper work to prove work and parts
• Comes with Chilton repair manual and Offroad Cherokee Builders book
• I have never been stranded or stuck!

The Bad/Ugly (brutally honest, please read):
• I didn’t trim the fenders because I thought it would look ugly (SO the wheels will rub if you go in reverse to fast while turning)
• Speedo is slightly off due to larger tires (Jeep comes with a custom Jeep Cherokee modification book that details exactly how to fix this and has a lot of interesting stuff in it as well) ($35 part to fix it) (I just drive a bit under what the speed limit is)
• The electric window motors are old and slow… rear passenger shouldn’t be lowered all the way.
• The weather stripping in the front driver door leeks during heavy rain storms (It pools nicely on the rubber floor mats, LOL)
• It’s a Michigan Jeep so the rust has eaten out the rear of the rocker panels (It was Ziebarted when it was brand new so it is better than most jeeps in the area)
• The adjustable swaybar links from JKS suck (Bushings are blown so the rattle and make a lot of noise)
• It rattles and shakes like any other jeep as you go down the road.
• Cruise control doesn’t work (no idea why, I don’t think it’s anything super simple to repair)
• ABS is broken (some brush took out one of the sensor lines that runs along the rear axle)
• The exhaust is loud-ish (the muffler was replaced with pipe because it had a rust hole in it)
• The Neutral-Safety-Switch is a bit fussy (sometimes it likes to be started in Neutral rather than Park. I noticed that it’s only the first day of the season/temperature change that this happens) (I have a spare one and another complete transmission…) (it always starts)
• The rear hatch shocks are limp so it hits you in the head ( I have new ones, I just haven’t put them on)
• Gas mileage is 12 city/17 highway (this is the reason for selling it) Also I used to live up north where there was snow and a lot of good trails. But now I’m in the city….

All in all it is a fantastic Jeep and I would love to sell it to a member of this community who will cherish it! I want to sell it to someone who understands what it means to own a 23 year old Jeep. It has character and has made me laugh over the years that I have owned it. But do to my financial situation I can’t afford to drive it and it makes me sad seeing it just sit in the driveway. Please message me if you are interested in it. I no longer have Insurance on it so test drives require cash in hand.
