1997 Jeep GC, 2WD, I6 with 207k miles. Jeep is a tank like most of them, it just won't die. I have had ZERO issues with temp and that's even when pulling my fishing boat with the air on in summer.
Late last fall I replaced the water pump with an advance auto reman unit due to it pissing coolant. I also replaced a weeping freeze plug on the 2nd plug back with a rubber style. I did not notice any temp issues then either right away but the daily temp was staying pretty cool. Fast forward to a few weeks ago. I noticed at highway speeds(75) or going up steep hills its rising up to 210 and it used to never get there. Its getting to 210 on 50 degree mornings. I can drive at 60 and it seems fine but 75 and 2400 ish rpm and the temp gets to 210 within 3-5 miles.
Makes me think I have a water pump issue? Anyone heard of new pumps having impeller issues.
I'm going to jack it up today and check the lower hose. I also picked up a new T-stat yesterday. Ill put it in as well however I don't think its the issue.
When I had the exhaust off to replace the plug I did pull a good bit of metal out of the coolant passage with a magnet so I guess I could have stirred up enough gunk to plug the rad.
suggestions????
