I received my 03 WJ M35 recall for the faulty air bag wiring harness as I am sure many of the members here have. My air bag light has been on either just before receiving the recall notice in Oct/Nov of 2012. Part(s) finally came in at my dealership this past Feb (2014) had the recall done and the service advisor told me when it was completed that my air bag light was still on. asked if I wanted to have it diagnosed for $92...I did and then he tells me that my air bag control module is shorted out and to I want to have it replaced. Well of course as this could mean either premature deployment or worse no deployment if in an accident. Then he tells me that they have to order the part and it is $497 plus $120 to install it. I asked if this was covered under the M35 recall and he said it was not; this seemed to coincidental to not be related...
Ordered the part and had it installed, contacted Chrysler customer service and got the typical run around that this was not covered under the M35 recall and was not related. "you know your vehicle is 11 years old and parts do wear out" that is when I got a little upset as I have owned 5 jeeps in the last 25 years and have never had any issues such as this and that is why I keep purchasing them. No compensation from Chrysler, just we will keep this on file and if other instances of this occur we will look into this further.
Long story to get the real question...has anyone else had this problem occur with their WJ or had there air bag control module replaced because it shorted out?
