plausible idea or not?

Ok here it goes and beat me up if you want. My front diff on my 98 5.2 is slowly but surely on its way out. I plan on swapping a hp dana 30 in at some point but that's neither here or there. The main problem is I think the vc going bad in my transfer case is the culprit of the toasted front diff. I work in the oil patch in ND and I need to drive back to fargo to get my 242 case and the drive shaft I found for it. So here's the question, could I remove my axles and front drive shaft and basically eliminate using my front diff for the trip there and back? I know I would get junk in the diff but that's not a huge concern since it's pretty much done for. Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks guys.
