Crack open steering column at JY to test heated seats?

Can I do the following to a Jeep at the junkyard to test the heated seats:



1. Bust open the steering column to move ignition to on position?



2. Will the heated seats then be on if they work even though the engine isn't running?



I'll be hooking up a battery that I bring in.
