OK, so I bought a '97 XJ a month or so ago and it was for the purpose of an offroad vehicle and a 3rd (Back up) vehicle for the family in the case of the '99 WJ getting another Mod or the Truck going in for something.
Anyways, I have intentions (and all the parts) to lift this one 6" w/ a Skyjacker/TJ front end system. It has adjustable CAs upper and lower, TB & R TRE w/ heim. Was just gonna build a bastard/block pack for the rear after seeing the results of a friend's. (No point in spending $400 on leafs)
The issue: I was speaking with the local Crawler guy, who helped me do my WJ (now a total unit) and he stated his opinion that since this Jeep has 200K on it and has never been lifted or even off-roaded much (if any), that if I were to go that high, I would most likely experience a slew of problems. i.e. Driveshaft vibes, Death wobble, all steering components wearing immediately to replacement, etc., etc. He suggests a 4" set up.
This was the case with my WJ, so I can see the logic, BUT DIFFERENT vehicle. . .?
In addition, I have seen hundreds of lifted XJ up to 6" and beyond and I know they are no spring chickens, sure they might develop DW and other issues, but that's what you bite off when you want to get going with a build.
THE QUESTION: after all my BS!
Have any of y'all lifted a VIRGIN XJ, with 200K+ miles lately . .? IF so what were the results and what should I expect on a 6" ? Is it more practical to go 4" ?
I'm sure this is common so sorry if so, but I would like a few opinions before making a move. I got the coils to do both and CAs are adjustable, so I could always go 6" and scale down or reverse.
Also, ordering 1 component/week is feesable if results can be achieved.
Thanks for the help XJ guys,
D
