2001 Jeep XJ cracked head

mercredi 2 avril 2014

Hey guys. Broke College student with a broke Jeep here.

Back in November my Jeep overheated for the first time and immediately lost heat and blew the radiator. I managed to replace the radiator but I was still having issues with overheating and no heat after driving for 6~ minutes. I noticed the oil pressure build up to ~80 and gave in and took it to a shop and they said I have a cracked head (I've been reading around here and it seems i have that notorious 0331 crack, but I haven't verified where it is) a broken water pump, and I also have a cracked block and would new a whole new engine.

I don't have the 3k they want to fix it so I'm going to try and take on the project as a rite into jeep manhood. I'm hoping I can get this all done for less than 1k but I'm not sure where to start.

I'm hoping yall can help me out with what would be best to do. Should I replace the entire engine with a junkyard one or should I just replace the head and the block? I don't know how to verify if there is a crack in my block because I'm hoping I can get away from this with just a head replacement.
