Rented a 2014 Durango...Impressions vs my Overland

mercredi 9 avril 2014

I was out of town and wanted to rent a Grand Cherokee and all they had were Durangos. So I reluctantly rented the Durango and in the end I'm glad I had the chance to drive one. I had no idea that the Durangos interior was just like our 14' GC.

I was really impressed with the handling. Compared to my Overland, the Durango handled a lot better. Not sure if it's because the Durango has thicker sway bars or if it was the Michelin tires. I have the Forteras on my GC. The Durango had a lot less body roll and felt more planted in the turns. Very surprising for a bigger vehicle. The Durango's ride quality was a bit harsher over the bumps however.

The Durango I rented had the 3.6 V6 with AWD. Power and acceleration was about on par with my GC (V6 AWD). One difference I liked better was the gear selector. It as just a dial rather than an actual shifter. Only thing I missed was the ability to shift into sport mode which the Durango lacked.

If one didn't need the off road capability of the GC, I'd say the Durango might be a good alternative. I personally don't care for the looks of the Durango, but you do get a bit more room and seating capacity with the third row.
