Dropping the front axle to replace the springs

I want to drop my front axle so that I can get the springs out (I don't want to mess with spring compressors). I thought that you only needed to disconnect the track bar, shocks and sway bar links to get enough droop, but the FSM is saying that you also need to disconnect the driveshaft, drag link (at the Pitman arm), and control arms?
