42RLE auto Transmission smoked; need advice

mardi 7 octobre 2014

SO my transmission has been throwing the P0846 (low pressure circuit B; 2/4 pressure sensor) and the p0700 (generic transmission error). Originally, I was told that the p0700 was just along from the low pressure code, but according to a transmission guy I just had look at it, the p0700 is what is sent from the transmission whose internal code says that the transmission has been overheated.

Because of the overheat code and the fact that there really is low pressure in the 2/4 circuit (i.e. electronics and sensor are working correctly) he's saying that I need a rebuild to replace the 2nd gear clutch plates.

A local rebuild with a local (good at his shop in Dallas) warrantee (75k/3yr) will run me about $2400!!! That hurts a lot

But the other option is to put a factory remanufactured transmission that'll cost me $3100 but has a Jeep/Chrysler warrantee that is good at any dealership for about the same distance & time.

2 questions:

1) does anyone have any cost data on what a transmission rebuild should cost. Are these numbers about right? High? Low?

2) is the extra cost of the factory reman worthwhile as I'd get to take it to a dealer anywhere in the US in case I have issues with it when I go to CO or anywhere else?

Feeling poor :(
