2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 4WD with 4LO. Since I bought the Jeep with 53,000 miles on it, it has intermittently thrown the Service 4WD Message on long trips, but with no noticeable effects and no DTCs either through the key trick or my code reader.
Well just in the past couple days I noticed the S4WD message coming on as soon as I crank the Jeep and staying on basically the entire time I'm driving it flashes up.
After doing some research on the forum I just went outside and tried to put it in 4LO, and lo and behold, it wouldn't go into 4LO, it just flashed the message as soon as I pulled the t handle. I've never had any problems going into 4LO before, though I did not use it often at all.
I should also add that several months ago, twice, each instance several months apart from the other, I came out to the car after it being in park and when I cranked it, it was in 4WD LO. I did not engage 4WD LO before or after parking the vehicle. In both instances, it went back into AWD just fine with a slow neutral roll and a t handle pull. It only happened twice, and again, it was several months before the current instance.
I know this has been posted a lot, and I've reviewed several threads on here and on other message boards and there does not seem to be a consensus. Any help will be appreciated.
Also, all along, I've never one time gotten a DTC or engine light.
