So, I bought my 1997 tj a few months back, not my first wrangler, I had another tj, and two yj, as well as an xj, mj, and zj. It's from California and completely solid, unlike most all of the jeeps in Michigan. Verrrry rust free. Has a nice bestop sun rider too (that I think I would like to sell or trade for a frameless top) and bfg 31 all terrain tires on corroded wheels. Also had big stupid looking flares that looked like stock flare only seven inches wide. Made it look jk level bad. *shudder* The vacuum lines were all routed to the wrong spots with plugs in the ends of some of the lines. This caused oil to dribble out of the back of the valve cover, somehow near the throttle body, and run down the O2 sensor wires and eat up the connection to the sensor. So i reroute the vacuum lines, replaced the O2, replaced the check engine light bulb that was conveniently missing, and it was still a bit down on torque, so I crawled underneath to take a look at the cat, and sure enough, someone had welded in a nice test pipe. Idiots. That would explain being a bit down on torque.
Bought a set of new springs for an lj rubicon and got it back sitting where it should. Got rid of the noise bfg tires and put a set of 30 inch dunlops on tj canyon wheels in in there place. A set of stock flares, which I painted with krylon plastic paint and sold the big flappy flares off. Added a two inch hitch, took off the side steps, got an alignment, got ride of the plastic bumper milk jugs, internally painted the frame with Eastwood internal frame coat to keep it nice, and touched up various nicks and scratches.
Oh yeah, it's purple. That sucked at first but it's grown in me. Like mold or the clap. But I've started to like it. 2.5 ax5.
I just painted the grill with plastidip.
