Grand Cherokee 2002 2.7 CRD power loss problem

jeudi 16 octobre 2014

Hello everyone

I have been experiencing the following problems with my Grand Cherokee:

1. The main problem is that when I am driving I feel that acceleration is being sluggish. Then when I drive for a few minutes above 100km/h orange engine light comes on and revs cannot rise above 2500. When going uphill it will start slowing down although I'm fully pressing down on the gas pedal. Seems like it is still switching gears 1-5 but extremely too early. The horse power that was there disappears completely. The voltage is stable at 14V and oil pressure is stable in the middle as well as temperature at around 80 degrees with 25 degrees outside. When I switch of the engine and start it in parking gear, the orange engine light stays on, I then rev over 3000 and the orange light switches off. Then the story repeats.

Did anyone have similar problem? What could be causing this loss of engine power?

2. Difficult engine start after being switched off over 4/5 hours. Sometimes have to crank for over 8 times before engine starts. I was told that it is most likely due to cold weather in the morning, but it's happening when it's 28 or more degrees outside now too.

Does anyone know the most likely cause of this?

3. Not a big problem but still worth mentioning is the console display on the ceiling has become very dim and gets back to original brightness at random times now and then, but mostly stays very dim.

Must be an electrical problem... Does anyone know what it could be specifically?

4. Could the above mentioned problems be related?

Thanks in advance to people being kind and giving my post some of their time and attention.

All the best
