We know the routine. The tire swing gate is tight at first and makes zero noise. Time and miles pass and its starts to rattle over even the little bumps now. Inspection shows that the holes are elongate and the bolts have grooves worn in them. You can replace the hardware or drill the holes out larger. This restores a round hole again, but for a larger bolt. Even with grease, it still happens again....even on a stock sized tire. Here's a quick visual of what we're dealing with.
So, I'm looking for ideas that involve keeping the swing gate and its mounting on the tub. I have welders, plasma cutter, saws, etc so fab work is no problem. What I'm thinking is a small set of tapered bearings top and bottom of each pivot. You could barely tighten the bolt more and it would remove ANY play. Think the same idea as your front wheel spindle and its bearings.
Has anyone seen a design like this that would be in a small enough package to be applied to this application? Any parts links, etc?
Again, please don't suggest going spareless or moving to a bumper swingout.
THANKS
