2001 XJ Stutter at highway speed gets worse when hot

mercredi 26 mars 2014

Okay, I have done lots of searching on different symptoms but none of the results seem to cover exactly what my XJ is doing.

It starts and runs fine when cold. Although the idle seems just a hair rough at times, it is really only noticeable by feel. Once the Jeep is warm is stutters periodically at highway speeds. The longer I drive it the worse it gets and then it will eventually throw some CEL codes and go into limp mode where it seems to be running on half the cylinders. When it does this I can shut it off and restart it (sometimes while going 65 down the highway by throwing it in neutral) and then it goes back to running normal but still stuttering. Today I noticed that when it went into limp mode, the gas gauge was reading 1/4 of a tank lower than it should; a simple restart and the gauge went back to normal.

It always starts up just fine even when I shut it off on the highway and restart it.

The codes it throws are P0351, P0300, P0301, and P0306. I did the dumb thing and threw a $100 coil rail at it but that of course didn't fix the issue.

What do you guys think I need to check next? I don't want to throw more parts at it, because that never seems to work for me.

Thanks in advance for reading and for any help you can provide.
