I'm in the process of overhauling my brakes. I've already rebuilt the drums and they work as fine as they can, but while bleeding the front brakes we noticed that the front pistons are not moving as much as they should.
Under heavy braking on loose terrain the left wheel will lock, but the right won't. On asphalt none will. Rear wheels lock everywhere under the same conditions.
There are no leaks anywhere in the system.
Now, prices for calipers, rotors and pads here are beyond stupid. I've been given a 360 ($480) estimate for both full sets, so I'm thinking on going slowly and try to pinpoint and solve the problem.
I've been documenting myself, and as far as I've seen, the whole disc system is not complicated at all. One gasket/o-ring at the piston, dust cover, and then the pads, rotors and maybe changing the lines to shielded ones. And then there's the bolts/pins that hold the calipers.
I've seen that those bolts are also the guides for the internal caliper movement, so I've thought on disassembling the calipers and check those bolts first.
Am I on the right track? Suggestions?
Thanks!
