wj tranny problems please help

I have an 2002 wj Laredo 4.0l w/ 130k on the clock. Today I turned around on a back road, before I stopped and put it in reverse it was completely fine. I backed up normally with no issue, when I put it into drive, it doesn't move just revs up and idles forward. Wouldn't even make it up a slight grade almost wide open. Eventually got it to move wide open on the rev limiter manually shifting from 1st 2nd and finally into drive. Was able to make it up to speed, but with very low power. When I got home, I parked on the hill, put it into neutral and it won't roll. Hit the throttle in neutral it surged forward, put it in reverse, throttled up again and it surged forward again in freakin reverse. No idea what's going on, no CEL no codes on scanner. Please any opinions would be great.

Synergy TR and alignment question

Just installed a new synergy tie rod and drag link this morning to replace the stocker. Took it to Les Schwab after work for an alignment (as recommended by Synergy). The tech told me after he was done he could not adjust the caster/camber back to spec range due to the new tie rod (what he called the "toe bar").

He claimed I would need some type of after market ball joints to allow for this from hereonin as the synergy TR allows for too much rotation.

He said best I could do otherwise was keep up on my tire rotation. Now I don't know much about alignment, but as many folks are running this setup, it sounded a bit odd. Any alignment experts who can chime in?

Thanks

Current readings:

Camber: L: 0.7" (spec range -0.6-0.1) R: -1.0"

Caster: L:3.2" (spec range 3.2-5.2) - R: 2.7"

Solve the ETC Problem?

I have read all the threads, I can find, about Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) problems. All the threads describe failure of the of the ETC but no threads about solving the problem or what the fix is, if any. So any of you that have had this problem and got it resolved please share the solution.

Trouble Codes after 4wheeling

I was out 4wheeling in the Outer Banks, NC. I got my 05 TJ automatic stuck in a sandy mud puddle for a while. When I got back I had the following trouble codes. The Jeep revs up when it starts, sometimes idles a little high and shifts to second later than normal. Please help.

'99 XJ Intermittent Rough Idle Cold OR Hot - Throws P0303

Hi All!

I have a 1999 XJ Limited with 150K miles and maintained well.

About 2yrs ago, I had a radiator crack, so replaced myself ( I'm an engineer, with many auto rebuilds under my wing, so no worry there)

I also replaced the Tstat (195 deg), and the Water Pump at the same time---Hey want a complete solution, no?

Sooo, now comes last week...all of the sudden I am overheating, and just as I limp into the driveway, a strange "clatter" from under the hood...maybe oil is so hot that tappets are noisy, or whatever... On inspection, very little water in the system.

1) So I figure the TStat at least, and get a new one in that day. Old TStat WAS defective-"frozen" closed. Reassemble, test, STILL instant overheat.

2) So IT MUST BE the Water Pump (Autozone Best--HAH!)--I disassemble and take the pump off, and what falls out LOOSE---THE IMPELLER DISK!!!!!

WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK!!! DO NOT BUY AUTOZONE PARTS IF YOU CAN HELP IT!!!

3) Replace WP with brand name, reassemble, and test--NO OVERHEAT--BUT NOW ENGINE IDLES ROUGH! (No coolant loss, no white exhaust smoke, engine runs fine at speed)

4) Engine now starts fine COLD or HOT, but idles rough intermittently--if I drive for 2-10 minutes on an arterial (0-30mph with stoplights) the engine MIGHT smooth out at idle, might not..it's unpredictable.

5) Yesterday, at rough idle and hot, got a P0303 just as I put it back in gear (automatic), from a stop.

PLEASE give me an idea of where to start on this guy??????

Thanks, Thierry

decision. 02 with select Trac or 04 with quad track iI

I'm looking at two wj's. A 2002 Laredo I 6 select Trac with hitch no tow package. 146,000 miles or 2004 special edition with tow package, skid plates , and 4.7. Far as trim, options, and body condition they are both the same. Question is how desirable is the select Trac, is it worth getting a Laredo with no tow package or skid plates and a 2 year older car with select Trac. Have not driven them yet.

Hauling a Motorcycle

mardi 29 juillet 2014

Hello Hello,

Recent purchase of a Motorcycle. Just spent more than I should on the bike and now looking for all my options to haul it around. I've looked at trailers and hitch mounts. I'm wondering if anyone on here with bike has any advice or suggestions as to how I should go abouts doing it.

(poor quality photo, high quality bike :) )

Cheers

Hi! Newbie with newbie questions

Hi,

I've admired Wranglers since I was a kid and saw the YJs in Jurassic Park. My Mrs and I have agreed that we need a car to carry the dog around and for her to use as winter transport - I immediately suggested a TJ Wrangler and am now on the hunt for a nice 4.0. The bonus is that I can use it for some 4x4 club events and greenlanes.

First question - is there a buyer's guide anywhere? I've had 4x4s before (Land Rovers), but don't know anything specific about Wranglers. Where should I check for rust? Any watch outs for the engine or drive train? The examples I'm looking at have about 140k miles on the clocks - is this likely to be a problem?

Next question, I've found this picture of a TJ and I absolutely love the way it looks. Could anyone guess what wheel/tyre combination it is? I thought it was 31/1050 on 15 inch modulars, but the tyres look like they stick out of the arches a lot more than other TJs I can find with that combination. Any ideas? Not saying I want to go as extreme as that, but I am interested.

Good Jeep mechanic in Boston/South Shore for OME lift?

Hello,

I've searched through the forum for duplicates of this thread but they're either dated (mechanics suggested no longer in business) or never provided an answer.

I am looking for a good Jeep mechanic to work on my Jeep XJ 2000. I would like to replace the stock suspensions with an Old Man Emu Medium Duty suspension system. I researched all systems out there, and this seems to conform to my needs; I don't use the Jeep off road a lot, but I do need it to be a smooth ride. I do drive on snow, unpaved roads and occasionally on sand, but nothing requiring huge lifts etc.

As far as multiple days of research have shown, there is no ARB dealer nearby (I live in Hingham).

I know about Elias 4 Wheel Drive center in Townsend, but it's 2 hours away and they don't sell Old Man Emu. I'm not sure that they would be OK with me bringing them the kit and having them install it. I could find it online for $800 from reputable sellers. Whenever I suggested to a mechanic that I bring my own parts, they never reacted well.

Is there a honest and reasonable mechanic nearby who will work on my Jeep?

I tried Boston Jeepz in Newton and, while their service was good, they wouldn't do lifts on 2000 XJs.

Also, this is not something I can do myself. I could if I had the spare time, but I want it done properly and in a timely fashion. If the mechanic I find will do a great job, he's likely to get way more business from me and my Jeep-owning friends (everyone in my large family owns Jeeps).

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Removing passenger axle bushing

I am trying to find a shop that can replace the bushing but no one wants to touch it.

I am referring to the passenger side upper arm axle bushing.

A mechanic i trust seems to think that a special tool is needed to remove and press the replacement in. He figures without the proper tools the bushing might be "loose".

So what tool I need? A link would be great,

thanks!

Two issues - no backup lights and radio static.

I recently upgraded to some LED spot lights for my light mounts on my windshield (previously were halogen).

I now notice, when I turn them on, I get static on my radio (aftermarket stereo, btw) that was not there with the halogen lights. What causes this, and is there a fix for it?

The other issue is I notice my backup lights do not work.

I should explain they are aftermarket lights; with two relays and two fuses (one for the transmission switch, and one for a toggle switch).

I have checked the relays (switched them out) the fuses (switched them out) and I do know I have power going to the relays (since they click). I do not have power to the actual lights as well.

Being that BOTH switches are not working, am I wrong to assume a bad power wire to the lights themselves? Could it also be a bad ground, or is that ruled out by checking power at the rear lights with a test light?

loaded 2003 wrangler x?

So im new to jeeps (coming from the performance car world) and know very little about them. I was wondering what you experienced jeepers thought about my possible future purchase. im currently looking at a 2003 wrangler x with a 4 inch suspension lift, 3 inch body lift (will take it off if i buy it), 18inch xd rims, 35inch tires, fender flares, soft top, bikini top, Smitty Bilt Front and Back Bumpers, 4 kc lights, a warn winch, safari doors, the stock doors, and a full stereo upgrade including head unit, amp, 4 speakers, and a 10 inch sub. it has 85000 miles and the guy wants $16k. do you think it would still clear these rims and tires if i took the bl off and went back to the stock mounts? do yall think this is a good deal? i plan to go look at in on thursday so if yall have any questions about it that i cant answer, i can ask him while im there.

now a little bit about myself. i plan on getting a wrangler for my daily driver (gas mileage is not an issue) but also as a toy on the weekends. i wouldnt be doing any rock crawling or anything hardcore like that, but mudding and beach trips are definitely something i want to use it for. ive done some research and ive found that people say the dana 44 rear axle is the best but do i really need to spend the extra money to get a rubicon with it since im not doing anything extreme with it? ive got jet skiis and a four wheeler and would also like to know if a tj could pull them and be able to drag them up a steep loading ramp. it would be two full size skiis on one trailor. Thanks guys!!

3.7L engine surging.

Going on two months ago I had changed out my plugs and had noticed that the engine surges when going at a slow speed/rpm (for example at 25, 30, or 35 mph). I have ignored it since I am not getting any CEL codes, but this morning it has become more predominant. All of my searches have come up pointing towards the TPS, so by this weekend I will replace it and see if this cures the surging issues at low-mid RPM's or not. The history on the plugs, I went from a Autolite AP3944 to the NGK ZFR6F-11G, noticed the surging and then reinstalled the old plugs but there was no change, it still had the same surging.

Besides replacing the TPS, (connections are good and tight) are there any other thoughts?

Mj front face swap

Have a 89 MJ and it has a cracked front clip. I found a clip from a 01 XJ and have fabricated the new mounts for it to mount to the existing fenders, but the wiring harness is different. Can I run the old harness or should I splice the new one? Or is there an adaptor?

MJ or XJ DANA 44 Rear Axle SoMD/NoVA

Looking for Dana 44 rear axle assembly preferably from a late 80's Comanche because it will drop right into my YJ. Or an XJ Dana 44 rear is ok too. Just requires more work to fit. Anyone in southern md or northern va know of someone that is selling one would be awesome.

Anyone know? If I know what it's called, I can look for one on Ebay or Amazon.

I have been a Jeep person for a while now. And I think it is time I get into some real modding. I have done a tint and put in a new radio. But nothing really major . I am going to start with the major stuff soon. I hope I can keep adding to this topic when I make my move.

Front Sway Bar on TJ with 5.5" lift

I bought my TJ about 3 weeks ago and it has a RE 5.5" lift. I noticed when I disconnected the front sway bar to go wheelin two weeks ago that the the front axle sway bar tabs were tweaked and the passenger side had been welded. I thought maybe it had been welded because it broke or something. This made it difficult to remove the quick disconnects because of the weird angle it put on the disco. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the axle mounts had been cut, then a piece added in the middle to lengthen them about 2 or 3 inches. Whoever did this didn't see fit to gusset them and now I'm going to do it after I heat it up and straighten it.

My question is, when installing a 5.5" RE lift is this normal practice to lengthen the axle sway bar mount? Or are there some other options that might have been smarter? or was this necessary in the first place?

Pictures upon request.

Compass Warranty Tow Hitch

samedi 26 juillet 2014

Hi all,

Dealer neutered my 2012 jk!!! Help!

I just got a Transmission ECM update THAT I DID NOT ASK FOR while my 2012 Jeep JK was in the shop for a bad wheel sensor. Dealer said it was a factory update and they "updated it for me".

Well if I was drivin a compact sedan I would be ecstatic because the update increased my fuel mileage by 2 mpg....................problem is I had plenty of power and torque to yank my boat anywhere I wanted to with out hardly knowin it was behind me but now I feel like I am draggin the boat down the highway with no wheels on the trailer! And while towing my mpg dropped by 2 mpg!...........GRRRRRRR. :rantscream:

Raised hell and they told me sorry but we do not have the means to return it to the factory setting it came with. Told them to put it back or buy me a programmer. Shop foreman said that this a C.A.F.E. standard driven update! So make sure if you take your JK to a dealer for anything that they DO NOT UPDATE YOUR TRANNY ECM VALUES!!!!!!!

My jeep has 373 gears and I actually looked at my differential covers to see if they yanked my 373's and installed 321's! LOL

Which programmer will give me back my horsepower and torque ?

Please help. My Jeep has been neutered.

Problem startin my 06' Grand Cherokee after checking all the fuses

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I love my Jeep, but last night I ran into an unexpected problem. My passenger side headlight & blinker have been out for about 2 weeks. Last night my boyfriend decided to check the fuses but we couldn't be sure which fuse it was so he was looking for blown fuses in the hopes that it was the problem. He pulled every fuse individually one by one & put them back in their spot. No blown fuse was found & when he checked the bulbs they didn't appear to be burnt out either. So defeated we got back in to leave only the jeep wouldn't start. It turns over but won't fire. It's like it wants to start, but almost seems like it's not getting the fuel. I hadn't had ANY problems with my Jeep not starting at all since I've owned it which is only about 8 months now. When I first got it I did have a problem with the dash board lighting up (like it does when you first start the car) & then the engine cutting off right after they started blinking when coming to a stop after driving. We changed the ignition out & haven't had a problem since. I am at a loss. When you put the key in the ignition & turn it on (but don't start it) there is a red dot that comes on briefly (maybe 10 seconds or so it stays on) directly above the oil light indicator. We've tried disconnecting the battery & checked the battery in the key fob as well as rechecking that all of the fuses are in their proper places. I don't understand why it's not starting when there has never been a problem before. Is there some kind of safety feature that shuts off the fuel pump when you pull fuses? Please help. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Engine Swap Radiator Clearance

Im working on a 98 TJ 2.5 swap that I purchased as an abandoned project. Engine/trans is a 4.8/4l60E using truck accessories. The previous owner purchased an entire package of swap parts from Novak. Currently, I have the drivetrain in trying to finish the mechanical connections. The previous owner had the motor mounts welded in. I have verified that they were installed per the Novak instructions. Motor plates are bolted in the middle slot, so I can gain 3/8" moving to the rear most mounting position. Problem is I cannot get the Novak rad/efan to clear the water pump shaft. Moving to the rear most engine mounting position should give me enough clearance to bolt it up, but it will be too close to use in actual operation, it will definitely crash together with minimal body flex.

I've done a ton of searching and haven't found anything. Seems most people have over 1/2" of clearance here. Obviously the most logical explanation would be the motor mounts welded in too far forward, but that doesn't appear to be the case. I've sent pictures and dimensions to Novak and they are trying to see if anything jumps out.

Wanted to see if anyone else had a similar experience or input.

TIA,

AW

Not getting fuel, I think

First off, After roughly 5 weeks of owning my first Jeep, I can relate to most of the " You know you drive a ZJ when". I would like to add ,When you know how to hook up your ZJ to the tow truck faster than the response teams sent out" .On to my issue...

I just re-replaced my fuel pressure regulator in my 93 5.2 and it was running like a champ again. I drove it around as normal for work yesterday and at my last stop I went to start it and it ran but when you hit the throttle it would bog down terribly.Even at an idle it was very rough.

During earlier diagnostics on different issues , I am 98% sure i could hear my fuel pump kick on. I however do not hear it kick on now. I can pour fuel in the carb ( when its 114 out , fuel instant boils in carb , quite scary ) and once it works it way down the rails it comes to life momentarily. This tells me it must not be getting fuel to the rails, am i wrong?

I have checked the 30 amp fuse under the hood and its good. It could be the relay but what are the odds it went out?

I have no problem replacing my fuel pump but it sits at a cost of 180.00 smackers. so my question is this...

If I drop my tank and find I have voltage at the pump ,Does this definitively point to my fuel pump?

ProClip

This is not a sales pitch, but I wanted to show the Proclip (proclipusa.net) for my Cherokee. I have been a fan of these products for quite some. For those that aren't familiar with them, they are a 2 step phone/tablet mounting process for your car. Step 1, you buy a holder for the phone/tablet you have. This is either just a holder, or one with a charger built right in. Step 2, you have buy a mount for the car you have. The mount is designed to fit within the "cracks" of the existing surface, depending on where you get it. Below are pics from how it looks. I must say it is a very nice fit, no drilling, no tape, but very sturdy. Again, purely FYI

90 yj ac compressor

The ac compressor is slinging oil (and the source of my freon leak). I guess it's leaking at the shaft as it spins. It still makes cold air, can I get a repair kit or it or is it even worth it to try and fix it??

First Time Buyer...Looking for Opinions on 93 YJ

Hello. I am looking to buy my first Jeep. Went to look at a 1993 Wrangler, 4cyl, 5sp manual, 167k, 4" lift, new 33" 12.5 tires, new 4.88 gears, newer battery and alternator, and clutch.

Since all of you are the experts, I wanted to get your opinion on this Jeep. Thanks for any comments you may have.

-Black tube leaks water

cherokee cranks but wont start, replaced fuel filter/pump

Hey everyone, I've run into a bit of a problem with my 1989 wagoneer limited. I had issues starting it since I've had it but its gotten worse to the point we couldnt start it without starting fluid. Me and a friend changed the fuel filter and fuel pump the other night and it started up just fine, so I drove it home and that was that. The next morning I got up and it wouldnt start. would crank and crank but never turned over. Now, even with starting fluid it wont start. I tried jumping it and still nothing. I checked all my fuses and nothing seems to have blown. Any ideas?

Radiator hose leak issue

Had a radiator leak and it appeared to be the lower radiator hose. So I replaced the hose and installed new clamps as well. It still leaks though... I have tightened the clamp as tight as I can get it and it is still leaking (appears to be from the hose, where the hose connects to the water pump). The strange part is, it only leaks when cooled down. When I drive it, it doesn't leak. Park it in the garage and watch it for 15 minutes, nothing. Go out in the garage in the morning, huge puddle. Not sure what else to do. 97 TJ, 4.0

Loose fan/vibration issue?

mercredi 23 juillet 2014

So I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 L

It's quickly closing in on 250 K miles.

Today when driving to work, I hear a click noise & when I slowed down the dash/steering wheel starts vibrating.

The A/C was on, cause it's hot down here in Austin.

So I took it to Firestone since it's close to work.

They said something might be blocking the fan inside.

However I turn off the A/C and the noise immediately stops.

They were rather busy, so they couldn't look at it today.

I went to work, and during lunch opened the hood.

Noticed that the fan right in front of the drive belt area was vibrating a lot only when the A/C is running.

When I turn A/C off it stops running/vibrating.

So I press on the top of the fan area & that stops the vibration until I let go.

Any suggestions/quick fix?

Tried to duck tape it to the front of the hood area, but that didn't stop the vibration.

Also any quick fixes/suggestions for these issues?

My passenger side auto window quit working and I tried to fix the issue by just duck taping inside the door panel so the window won't go down.

It keeps sinking no matter how much tape I put on the window.

When I did that I somehow made it so the lock on that side won't lock.

Also the manual lock on that side is stuck on the lock position, yet the door isn't locked.

I have it kept shut with a bunch of bungee cords & a ratchet tie down.

Also the back drivers side door lock sometimes locks, and sometimes doesn't.

If I lock it manually it stays locked most of the time, but on occasion when I use the unlock thing, it unlocks & doesn't re lock.

Don't have a ton of $, and don't want to borrow anymore $ from my parents to fix it.

I currently owe them about $2000 from the last repairs I had to do to the car.

Can't afford any car payments, bad credit, etc.

So I need to keep the car for as long as possible.

One final note:

Got an oil change recently, and they said these things needed "fixed".

Leaking oil (been doing that since I owned it, this was my dad's work car for about 3 years)

Dry rot/cracking on belt (I swear they replaced it less than a year ago)

Water pump leaking (I haven't noticed any water besides the normal run off with A/C)

Rear differential leaking (last repairs were on the transmission, I can't believe that a repair of over $1500 would "forget" this?)

So the estimate was another $1500...

I have no clue

Please help me. I am new to the Jeep crowd and need help with the value of two Jeeps. I am look at buy a jeep for tails and family fun. Both of the jeep in the links are asking about 10,000 for them. HVAC controls not working correctly

98 laredo SE. high speed on the fan has been working intermittently for a while now, no big deal, i know it is only a relay.

But today, while driving with the AC on it kept reverting to Defrost position. it would switch back to the position i had it on, no matter what i put it on, but would come and go back to defrost everytime.

any idea's?

AC noise

Today driving...AC cooling fine, temp in upper 80s outside. Setting was on "AC", and maybe on third setting (fan speed). Each time I was stopped at a light, (once each time) I heard a low, moaning type sound that lasted for a second or two. It seemed to come on as I could heard the AC cycle. Any idea what that could have been. Did it at each stop, one time. When I pulled into garage I turned the AC off and listened. No noise.

I'm starting to hate this Jeep

I have a '97 Grand Cherokee 4.0l that keeps stalling. I've gone through the "Dirty Dozen" and though improved, definitely not fixed. I've changed the fuel pump,TPS sensor, Champion plugs, wires, cap and rotor with brass contacts, coil, pickup coil, Crank sensor ,cleaned the throttle body, cleaned and dielectric greased every connection I know of, cleaned grounds and major battery connections, checked for vacuum leaks, wiggled every connection while the it was running.

What it's doing right now is, when the car is in park, when i rev the engine it will drop rpms to almost zero... or damn close almost stall when I let off ,then will go back to normal idle. It will stall sometimes in gear.

Any ideas?

looking for a good trip

well that says it looking for a good 4 day off road get away later in the year when it cools down, hopefully we can find something

How to replace control arm bracket?

Please help me with some information. Driving in the woods I hit a tree stump hidden in the grass, now i have bent steering rod, dislocated control arm braket on passenger side and possible bent trackbar. While replacing the steering parts is prety much standard, control arm bracket not so much. As I understand from the threads on this forum best solution would be to buy new brackets and wheld them on. Problem is I am not a whelder, i will have to take it to the shop, but there are no specialized 4x4 shops here, those that come close, work with standrd parts mostly. Usually I end up expaning to them what needs to be done and how.

I am thinking of going with crown brackets http://ift.tt/1sPG5nn

I need advice on whelding the brakets. Are there any underwater stones in this?

how precise do they need to be alligned? How they need to be aligned?

Should they be whelded when the axle is off the car or can it be done while it is still attached?

Should the oil be drained from the axle before whelding?

Since they are rather thick I assume to wheld them properly there will be alot of heat, any chance of damadging the axle it self?

Any other tips and advices are welcome.

'73 CJ5 Soft tops

mardi 22 juillet 2014

Hi,

Looking to find a low cost soft top for my '73 CJ5.

Have seen the $900+ options and hope for something for

less coin. Thanks.

Getting ready to remove the front axle, any gotchas?

My axle (among other things) is getting more surface rust than I'm comfortable with, so I'm planning on removing it, cleaning it up, and hitting it with POR15. Is there anything involved with the removal of the axle that is especially tricky? Or a specific order I should remove parts?

Thanks!

Hard braking followed by loud grinding, Cherokee Help

Most of the brake components are new such as the boots, calipers, pads, master cylinder, and brake booster. This is a problem I've been experiencing for awhile. I have to be driving at a speed of around 30mph. And than hit the brakes hard to hear the noise. I also have a hard time stopping the thing. Even with the pedal pushed in as far as possible the thing still coasts a good distance. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Programming and shifting questions

Ok, so I'm not educated in these things.... I have a 2006 Rubicon. It seems to be a dog when on the highway between 65-75. Yes i know its a Jeep and made to do Jeep stuff but I do road it to places and drive it to work every once in a while.... However, it acts like it doesn't want to shift in high gear. i have tried a whole bunch of stuff. Can i get a programmer to change shift points, tire sizes, gears and such? I hear that programmers and chips are a waste but can you use it to change shift points, tire sizes and gear ratios? It has stock tires but it just acts funny. It doesn't want to down shift at those speeds. i have to let off for a second to let OD kick in. I'm sure there could be something else that is the problem but i am at a loss.... any ideas?

As for power and mpg gains, if the programer would help, cool. i do understand that most of them don't work. That being said, what about things like switching to electric fans and removing my ac pump? are those good ideas? I want to put a v8 in but I just put a brand-new head on it so I need to get my money out of it before taking on a huge task like that.

Scratch-X

I have exclusively used Meguiar's products for years. Never before tried Scratch-X.

For light, fine scratches/swirl marks, will this be effective and also safe?

Poly Door Hinge Bushings

Magnitude Engineering's premium line of replacement bushings for Jeep Wrangler door hinges will allow you to replace your deteriorated, worn out, or missing OEM bushings with ease. Whether you are trying eliminate unsightly rust, compensate for years of wear, fix that door that won't latch properly, or prevent potentially damaging leaks due to door misalignment; replacing your bushings is the simplest and most cost effective way to improve the appearance and operation of your door.

Simply remove the old bushings if necessary and insert new ones in their place without the extra time and expense of purchasing new hinges, removing the old ones, prepping and painting, or aligning. As opposed to replacing your hinges, replacing only your bushing minimizes the risk stripping a screw or damaging paint.

Magnitude Engineering's premium replacement bushings are precision machined from high lubricity Delrin® bar. They firmly support loads in both the radial and axial directions due to their full length barrel and flange. Because of the self-lubricating nature of the material, these bushings do not require additional lubrication. Unlike OEM bushings that are roll-formed from flat sheets of laminated material, these solid bushings will not flake apart or delaminate.

LEDs 2 wire on 3 wire...no blinker

hi everyone.

i know this has been addressed many times, but i can't find the answer and i am going absolutely crazy here. let me explain my dilemma:

bought a 04 rubicon a while back that came with LiteDOT led tail lights, flat fenders and a custom stinger that had custom regular bulb blinkers up front (they were connected to 2 wires). there was never a "nervous" blinker so i figured he changed the flasher relay.

now to the problem. i sold the stinger cause i didn't like it and mounted the rock hard bumper that came off my yj, so basically no more blinker up front. so i ordered a set of those led's that you push into that little hole in the corner of the flat fender (2 wire) so when i connect the led's to the factory connector they blink but in a weird way like normal blinker speed, but the led's blink about 3 times quick, pause 3 times quick, pause and so on...

then i realized that i want to use those light as blinker as well as parking lights, which means from the 3 wire harness to the 2 wire led cables correct? i got the diodes etc. from a different thread where it describes on how to do it, but now the following:

when i turn on the hazards, everything blinks like it should. when i just turn on the parking light, everything fine there but now when i want to turn signal left or right, the arrow on the dash stays on as well as the led's in front and rear. this btw also happens when i have no blinker lights installed up front, the rear just gets brighter and stays on, no blinking. is there problem with the flasher? do you actually need something connected up front so the rear will work?

so what should i do....i got a 2 wire factory harness (which should be the turn signal that was originally on the side of the fender, blinker only correct?) and a 3 wire (which was originally the one that was connected up front , blinker and parking light...am i right?)

i hope you guys understand my dilemma, hope i put it in the right words...

thank you so much up front for the help!

Coil install question

lundi 21 juillet 2014

I'm installing some new 2.5 coils and was wondering if it's okay to use the jack to push the opposite side of the axle all the way up to get it to drop all the way down on the opposite side?

scan tool for WK 4.7 4x4 2008 any suggestions?

Hello people! I'm from Brazil.

I need some scan tool to get codes for my transmission.

Where I live is very hard and spent a lot of gasoline to go up to the garage JEEP.

I have a scan tool launch x431 Creader vii (look at the picture) this is only able to get the engine and ABS codes. Do not see the transmission of my car.

ELM 327 also does not see the transmission.

Anyone have a scan tool that works in transmission jeep WK 4.7l 4x4 2008?

Indicate me please.

Sorry for the bad English.

Jeep seals leaking.... DIY job?

Hi, just wanted anyone's opinions on leaking seals.

Jeep Wrangler 2002, I have some slight leaking in both front and rear pinion seals, and rear axle seals.

What is a reasonable price to have these replaced? I know the seals themselves are not that expensive, but my understanding is you really need shop equipment to get the job done.

I called Firestone and they told me $877 total, parts and labor before tax.

That was $299 for both rear axle seals, $174 for rear pinion, $192 for front pinion and then $70 for differential.

Sounds high to me :/ but I can't seem to find any posts really with what people were charging. thanks for opinions.

JK Alternator

I have a 2010 3.8L Jeep Wrangler JKU and looking to upgrade my alternator. Looking to do a stereo system just under 3,000 watts. Wanted to know what size alternator I would need and where I can get one. I saw a 160 amp but I don't know if thats sufficient or not?

Headlight aiming

How do I adjust the up/down aiming of the bi-xenon HID headlights on a 2014 Cherokee Limited?

I have a rolling yj with no engine, transmission or transfer case. Any ballpark guesses on how much it will sag in the front when I install the drivetrain?

91 YJ Wipers Not Working

91 YJ, 2.5, ax5, yada yada.

Picked it up, the wipers are about the only thing that are not working.

I just got finished replacing fluid after fluid, plugs, wires, and finally a filter/fuel pump after hydro locking it on its maiden wheeling trip.

So now its time to sort out the smaller stuff.

I havent even looked, but im assuming there is a fuse for this under the hood, neither the washer or the wipers will work, no noises, just seem dead.

If its not the fuse (which I am about to go check), where should I start?

Its probably important to know my radio, turn signals, etc work so its not the ignition.

cranked while engine is running=BAD!

I got back in the jeep and forgot I had left it running. I tried to crank our 99 sport and it was already cranked. Of course it only took me a millisecond to realize it, but it was too late. I cant remember if I heard that sound and I was beside a loud backhoe so I probably wouldn't have heard it.

Now nothing happens. It wont crank, the gauges don't move, the lights don't come on. Is it a fuse? If so what fuse? My Husband checked the little fuses and they all appear good. He doesn't know how to check the fuse for the starter.

My husband asked me how itstopped? He was trying to determine if it just cut off on its on or did turn it back with the ignition. But I don't remember exactly. My husband asked me if it made that noise but I was by a loud backhoe .

What will happen if the engine is running and the ignition key is turned?

I have seen many people do this before with no repercussions. I have done it in my Ford before with no problem I don't know what happened?

Any and all help appreciated.

Thanks

Granny DP

USAA Car Buying Service

Howdy all,

I've been lurking around here since selling my '04 TJR 4 years ago. Since then I've gone back to the world of Volkswagen (my soft spot), eventually losing my job and having to get rid of the GTI. Two years ago I bought a 2012 Honda Fit and this car just HAS to go. Granted it has a 100k mile warranty and I've achieved a record 42mpg, but damnit I feel castrated!

I am a USAA member and hoping to order a 2015 JKR about 6 months from now. I went online and built a mid-optioned Rubicon (Connectivity, Power, Dual Top, Heated Seats & Auto Temp) and the MSRP vs USAA Preferred Price was a good $3,500-$4,100 difference.

What kind of experience do you guys (and gals) have with USAA's car buying service? Would this be a no-haggle kind of transaction? Anything I need to look out for? I can count 6 Jeep dealers off the top of my head within a 15 minute drive from my house (Northern NJ) so I have a few options for dealers.

Thanks,

-Andy

Evidently I am Odd.

So, I have been off-roading for 20+ years and I have come to find out that running a $6.00 can of flat high heat black under your chassis is odd. Make perfect sense to me. Let's me know where I took the hit. I carry it with my gear. Always have. Went crawling the other day with a "know it all" and thought I was being "vain". One look under neath my jeep and you will always see where I took a hit. Am I odd here?

Rugged Ridge XHD Rear Bumper variations?

samedi 19 juillet 2014

So a few weeks ago I bought a Barricade Trail Force HD front bumper. It's a Smittybilt XRC Style knock off (yes, a knock off of a knock off). It looks exactly like the XRC front bumper and is still made of 5/32" steel.

So, now I'm looking at rear bumpers.

I like the Rugged Ridge XHD rear bumper (and tire carrier add on for that matter), but was wondering if there were ones that look the exact same, but are knock offs. When looking for my front bumper, I know that for the Smittybilt XRC style front bumper, there were TONS of exact replicas (Spyder, Tuff Stuff, eautogrilles).

Anyone know of a replica of this bumper?

http://ift.tt/1jMviHA

I like the way it reaches all the way over to the fender flares in the rear and it looks like it extends about 6" wide off of the tail end of the jeep. I'm planning on trying to attempt the on board water systems seen on a couple of JK's, and I want the rear bumper to be my water tank.

Zj quarter panel armor

Anyone know what happened with the new quarter panel armor being discussed a few months ago?

vac lines hooked up wrong

so i replaced my exhaust manifold, it all went really smooth. i was pretty sure i hooked the vac lines up right, so i fired it up when i got it put back together, when it fired it revved way up. i switched the vac lines around again, same thing. the throttle isnt stuck, but it acts like it is. i bled the fuel off the line, tried it again, and the same thing. i unhooked where the fuel pressure regulator hooks into the fuel rail, still no change. idk if this is a vac line problem, injectors, or something else. i got a vac line diagram on autozone and hooked it up like that. its still the same thing. idk what else it could be. any help would be great.

Wk abs and traction control light on

Kay so I've had a problem for several months where when accelerating the delights will flash and my acceleration goes in and out. Then when turning off the jeep the key gets stuck in the ignition.( I have the key that looks like a block) I eventually figured out that disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes then reconnecting fixes this for a few days. Is it safe for me to be driving with these two lights on? I'm on the road already and have about 6 hours to go. Any advice would be appreciated
