Replacing my muffler and exhaust pipe

So, seems like I need to replace my muffler and exhaust pipe. They're all gnarly and rusted. So, I went down to the parts store this afternoon and got me a new muffler, exhaust pipe, and hanger. I told the fella there that I also needed the hardware since everything was rusted. (Like the clamps and bolts and nuts, etc.) The fella told me that no such items were needed to install a new muffler and tailpipe. I told the fella multiple times that I was pretty sure I needed -something-, but he insisted I didn't... So I decided to come home and make a list of what I need and light him up about it tomorrow. Unfortunately I can't find a list online anywhere... Does anyone know what hardware I'll need? Nuts, bolts, clamps, etc. I know that sizes can vary based on the size of the exhaust pipe... But if I could just have an idea of what and how many, I'd really appreciate it.
