Steering suggestion- 77cj7 with scout axle

I have a 77 cj7 with scout international front axle. Previous owner put a chevy truck rack and pinion steering setup in, but the steering radius, especially to the left, is poor. I've heard the rack and pinion from older mustangs can work, but definitely open to suggestions and advice. Apologies if this info is out there on the forum, but the search tool kept giving me an error. Btw, runnin 36" mud tires, so beefy is better.
