11 Front End Clunking/Rattle over Bumps...Odd Dealer Reccomendation

mardi 11 août 2015

Hi Al l- I am hoping I can get some insight here. I have been a Jeep owner most of my life from the mid 90s GC to my current 2011 GC. Love the Jeeps but have an issue...

Recently I have begun to hear a clunking sound in the front left of the vehicle, mostly when going at slower speeds over bumps. Been about 3 weeks, I took to the dealer and the duplicated the sound and figured it was something suspension related. Well they did not find anything worn, loose or in need of repair. What they are recommending is the Power Steering Rack be replaced. That seems odd to me, said they put a stethoscope on it to determine? Odd bc I will not get the noise when just turning my wheels when not moving. I can get when moving going over bumps no matter what posting the tires are in.

Would this make sense to anyone? I have tried to research but cannot find any threads with this result? It is a 1300 fix and I do not feel it is where the rattle/clunking is coming from. Ball joint, shocks, etc is what I was expecting. My GC has 61k on it. I am suppose to go on a 400 mile vacation this weekend so hoping to get some insight and if this is an urgent repair.

Thanks!!
