Higher the engine temp, lower the oil pressure

mardi 1 septembre 2015

Hi guys, I have a 97 TJ 2.5 with about 130K miles on it. I know with high mileage, comes the wear and tear which commonly causes low oil pressure in engines. I am just looking for some advice to possibly try to get some more mileage out of my wrangler. It been pretty hot out lately, and the jeep does not like stop and go traffic. If it sits in traffic for a while, the water temp gauge will hit 210 or higher. Whenever the temp gauge gets close to the halfway mark which is 210, the oil pressure gets really low when the engine is at idle. It usually stays somewhere between 8-0 PSI (I am guessing). Sometimes it will dip below which will cause the "check gauges" light to go on. I am currently running just regular Valvoline 10w-30 oil. It seems like whenever the engine temp hits a certain temp, it's like clockwork that the oil pressure will dip. Are the symptoms I am describing just typical for a worn out engine? Thanks for any advice.
