Picked up my new running (ish) CJ5 yesterday!

Hey Guys!

I pulled off a bizarre and awesome trade on craigslist this week. I didn't think it was actually going to happen so I didn't post about it anywhere because I thought for sure that it was going to fall through, but first a pictures:

Let me start off by saying iIt was an interesting adventure.

First the CJ5 ran out of gas, the seller was AWESOME and went and bought my 5 gallons of gas and put it in the tank, uber cool of him :cheers2:.

Second was the fun part. I drove the CJ5 to the trailer, but there is a bit of lip on the trailer right now because I've been lazy and I haven't replaced the decking yet, so I get it up the ramp and hit that wood lip, and say to myself, "I'll just give it a little gas". Next thing I know I've shoved the trailers and my Liberty about 1 foot forward and twisted the rear end of the Liberty a little bit. No damage was done and this only happened because of the lip on the trailer at the moment. Also didn't help that the Liberty was on gravel.

Third. I forgot my spare battery to operate the 12,000lb Warn winch on my trailer, and the CJ5's battery was basically dead, so we put a shop booster on it and got the Jeep up on the trailer. SUCCESS!

Fourth. I had just two 5,000lb straps, and that simply wasn't enough so once I got it loaded, I limped over to Northern Tool, bought two more 5,000lb straps, and I strapped the CJ5 down so that the suspension started to compress a little in both the front and back.

Finally I was on my way home, I was surprised by my Diesel Liberty, except for uphills on the highway I was able to do 70mph with no problem, once I hit a hill, I could do 60, but I was turning overdrive off. This was my first load on my trailer and I was pleasantly surprised by just how well it pulled. We balanced the CJ5 on the trailer so it was just putting a little bit of weight on the hitch, and that seemed perfect!

Braking wasn't a problem and I never felt the load shift at all because of the straps used to hold to the trailer! I'll be posting more photos soon!

ABOUT THE JEEP!

Its a 1978ish CJ5. Don't know the exact year, these two guys bought it from a government auctions some 10 years ago and they don't know much about it except its got a vin sayings its 74 CJ5. Here is what I know

Its a 304 AMC V8 with headers, Edlebrock intake and valve covers with a Holley 4 barrel carb.

3-Speed manual tranmission

Front disc brakes

That's about all I know about the CJ5 at the moment. Here is what work I do have to do on the CJ5 before its road worthy.

Replace Brake Master Cylinder

Fix rear brakes

Replace Hydraulic Lifters and pushrods

Wire up tail lights

Fix gauges that don't work, almost all of them

I think that's it for now! I'll post more pictures later!
