Cross threaded new p/s hose into fan motor housing :(

samedi 15 novembre 2014

I in it deep right now. I have been having issues with my power steering pump for a little while now. It has been getting louder and louder and just recently in the last 2 weeks if its really cold in the morning and it doesn't get all warmed up before i drive it it will have a very hard time turning the wheel at a normal speed. Which is kinda dangerous on the road. I decided that I would replace it on Thursday even thinking it would be as simple as the last time which was 3.5 years ago. Well.... i had a hell of a time getting the high pressure fitting off the pump so i ended up pulling the pump out with it still attached by just disconnecting it from the fan motor housing. all working as planned except for that when i got it apart i realized the end that connected to the pump was in poor shape. i ordered a new one and put it all back together and the last thing to do was to connect the high pressure hose to the fan motor. because i live in an apartment complex since i'm a college student I was laying in a puddle of fluid in 30F temperatures trying to get this thing connected. i thought i had started it by hand straight but apparently not and i stuck a wrench on it cross threading it probably 2 or so turns. So after throwing/kicking random stuff in a fit of rage I'm now here asking for some advice. I cannot afford to replace the housing. I have thought about renting a tap/dye set but i'm not sure I know enough about what i'm doing and i dont want to make the problem worse.... maybe i shouldn't be working on cars lol

sorry about the run on sentences. i'm a mechanical engineering major b/c i can't write haha.

Thanks for all the help.
