First test drive of JK

samedi 8 novembre 2014

Hey guys,

Test drove my first JK today.

Ive always kind of thought they looked a little funny so I stayed away. But Im going to need a new DD here pretty soon....and Ive always loved my TJ....so I figured what the heck.

Since it would be my DD and I sometimes have to carry a lot of stuff, I only test drove the JKU. Both new with the 3.6.

First was a Sport S with a dealer installed 2" lift and 295/70/18s....auto. (looked incredible by the way). Problem was the dumass dealer didn't regear so it had 3.21s. Needless to say, it was pretty much a dog....although nowhere near as bad as I thought that setup with 3.21s would be.

Next was a fully loaded Rubicon manual. Very, very nice ride. Very out of my price range.

Overall, I could tell in the short time that I drove them that they were still a Jeep. They felt very capable....probly more so than any other Jeep before them.

But....2 things that will keep me away.

1....Too much plastic and crap to tinker with. Even the Sport S had too much. The Rubicon was ridiculous with the amenities. I cant get over that for some reason.....maybe Im just getting old and Im scared of technological advance. But I think it feels good to leave my top down on my TJ, grab a hose and spray the **** out of everything inside. No way, Id feel comfortable doing that with a JK.

2.... These things are fricking expensive....GAWD! I know they are reasonably priced among other SUVs within their class...but man...who can afford to make the payments on these things, pay for gas, do some mods, and go wheeling? Id need another full time job.

I will say this....when that soccer mom (not saying ALL JKU owners are soccer moms by the way) who just had to have the Rubi cuz its the best....when she is done with it in 5 years....Ill be all over it at half price.

For now, Ill stick with my TJ
