Just recently had my Steering Gearbox done. I bought an Autozone/Duralast gearbox for my 4.0L ZJ. After the install, at top dead center when I turn the wheel left or right I sometimes get a sort of "grind" like something's binding or clashing. And i noticed it seems to require a tad bit more effort to turn right than it does left, and the steering is not as tight/direct as I would have liked it to be.
I did drive with my old gearbox for about a year with it completely worn, and steering was very tight and it would not return to top dead center by itself. My mechanic tells me that the sound should go away in a couple of days, but i'm not so sure. Seems like something may be broken. I saw him and his dad playing with the intermediate shaft and bathing the joints in JB80. I did keep my old gearbox in case this one was trash so it could be rebuilt.
Any thoughts?
