Will this ignition coil work on a '97 Grand Cherokee I6? Amazon says it doesn't, but there is reviews that say it will.

Clutch issues!!! Help??

So I got home earlier and heard a super high pitch screaming grinding noise when I was backing up thought it was a crappy song turnt it off and it was louder. Its my clutch. I think its the throwout bearing.

Well I sprayed water from hose in the bellhousing holes for about 15 minutes and had it to where the water was clean coming out then got wood and held clutch pedal down that way til water was clean again I cleaned the bay to see if anything came out a lot of muddy water and dirt grim came out.

I noticed these pieces also came out. They are black like charcoal and seem to have some shine in them like steel and cooper.

Is it okay to drive a bit until I can get my warranty to fix the tranny from kicking me out of first gear and reverse (go to take off and the shifter is like a shotgun when it drops gear)?

The pieces are strong can't break them with fingers. They also look curved on some parts as if machined.

The jeep shifts fine don't notice it slip when step on it.

Clutch or throwout bearing pieces? Is it safe to drive or will I need a tow truck if I do drive it?

3 tail light bulbs, 1 doesn't do anything

My 2010 Jeep grand cherokee limited has 3 tail light bulbs: The reverse light, the brake/ turn signal light, and a third right next to the brake/turn signal bulb. What does this third bulb do? I tried everything and can't get it to turn on. If it's where the turn signal or brake light is supposed to come from, does someone know how to rewire it so the assembly works properly? Thanks!

Winter Ready: 34 x 10.5 BFG T/A K02

dimanche 6 septembre 2015

I wanted a tall yet narrow tire on the JK-8 for getting over Wasatch mountain passes - which will start getting snow the end of this month. The T/A's have the "snowflake symbol" as they are "severe snow service" rated. I usually go wider with a mud tire - but this way I can run the stock rims without spacers or lift. And, the sides of the Jeep will stay cleaner as the tires are well within the fenders, backed up by the Mopar splashguards.

The stock 255/75r17 BFG MT tires measured 31" mounted v. 32.5" for the 34/10.5r17 T/A's. The new spare just clears the bumper indent. Since the new tire only weighs 9 pounds more than the old, I think I can get away with no tailgate reinforcements this time around.

It does not look like it, but there's about 1" clearance between the rear tire and the rock rail. I've cycled the suspension on lifts and have not found clearance issues. The Jeep does have a 1" coil spacer lift on the front - but that's to set the rake where I want it and it was not necessary to fit the tires.

The ride after the swap is good - smooth and not harsh. The T/A's are a "D" rated tire and I'm running them in the low 30's on psi so far.

Any good trails in the rock hill York area?

I'm looking for one or two good spots to go wheeling and possibly camping and fishing. I just moved out to rock hill and don't know the area very well but I need to take my yj out and hit the trail it's been too long. Maybe something with a medium difficulty I'm only running 31s with a 1in lift. Anything an hour or so away?

Thanks

Battery issue perhaps

A little problem:

Yesterday I went out and tried to drive the jeep for the first time in a day or two and when I tried to start the jeep there was nothing, no electrics or anything. I tried a couple more times and nothing still.

I popped the hood and looked around and touched (didn't move) the terminals which are corroded just a tad but not real bad and then the jeep started (weird coincidence I think) but the jeep wouldn't stay running without me giving it gas for a little bit then it ran by itself no problem.

Radio lost power due to it now saying "demo mode" like new radios saying. I put my meter on the battery terminals while running and it says 13.64 and that should be good/normal for the XJ. The weird part is that when turned off and the meter on the terminals still the battery states 13.10 and declines very rapidly.

Jeep had a lot of cranking power still but it just won't stay on at first.

76' CJ7 Build

High all,

I am undertaking a total rebuild of a 1976 CJ7. It had the AMC 258, automatic tranny with quadratrac. I was wanting to get initial opinions about the power train. I would like to keep everything minus the engine. The mission is a toy around the neighbor hood with mild trail riding with the kids. So I don't need a super heavy duty set up, just need to have it mechanical sound.

I was thinking of, having the existing power train looked at / rebuilt as necessary and then for the engine put a Chevy small block in it. I have a frame I just picked up that is ready (with mounts) to go.

So, thinking of the kit to mod the quadratrac to part time 4wd, getting a later model 4L Chevy engine with fuel injection?

Any words of advice/recommendations ?

Ok my solenoids were bad I'm my zj. I got a used transmission and I no for a fact it was perfect before I got it. It was my in laws jeep. Anyway pulled solenoids from spare tranny and the filter was a 2 bolt. My filter is a 3 bolt. Idk how much that matters just curious and wonder if it matters in the fact that the solenoids should be the same correct? Came out of a 97 zj just like mine.

Passenger Side Mirror Glass Shaking

My passenger side mirror glass shakes badly when driving, particularly on the highway. The plastic is firm without any problem. Can this be fixed without replacing the whole assembly?

I see on some cars the glass is held on with adhesive, so if that is the case, I understand I can just pry the glass off and use some new adhesive to avoid the shaking. However, I do not want to break anything if that isn't the case on the Commander.

Ideas?

Financing a "classic" car

Has anyone had any experience w any classic car loan companies (e.g., light speed or something like that)? I've been stalking a bunch of private party sellers and as much as I want to get a semi project jeep for under 3k I'm seeing some pretty nice rigs for closer to 8 or 10. I could save for another few months, but if I see one that checks all the boxes w no rust (Gulf coast so rust is common) I want to be able to jump on it.

What to replace? Ran hot, now stuff breaking

My 1 year old Taurus fan crapped out on Monday, ran it up to about 240ish. Never hit the red zone. Now with the clutch fan installed and the temp under control, my Napa radiator blew out, Im guessing its from the extra heat the other day... I have a new Rad ordered from radiator express, but in the meantime, should I replace the water pump again? Its only a couple months old.

south California night trails?

I was wondering if there are any night trails. When I was going up to the high Desert I seen a convoy of jeeps with bright *** lights getting off at an exit they were waving me down to get off as well my only guess was they were going off roading. Just wondering if there are trails I was reading Temecula has one. Also what other trails are in southern California me and some buds are trying to explore other parts then azusa canyons.

1998 Jeep ZJ w/ 5.2 and 90k original miles.

I have a 1998 Red Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 5.2L V8 for sale, only 90k miles. Has both driver and passenger power seats, automatic lights, gauge light dimmer switch is loose and doesn't stay put but thats a cheap easy fix. I am the second owner (third if you count my older brother). It's been an amazing jeep takes me everywhere I need to go in the winter time. Would be a great vehicle for a high school kid. (I would know) Has the NP249 transfer case (4hi and 4lo), works great never had any issues. Jeep runs great, starts right up everytime. May need new tires soon but they should last another year. Headunit, and all 4 door speakers were replaced 2 years ago along with a 12" Kenwood Subwoofer in the back. I have all the original stereo components if you want them. I have taken very good care of this jeep only mild off roading (dirt roads with mild bumps). It was previously owned by a teenage girl so I can assume it wasn't beat on by her. Has a aftermarket remote start system with alarm. I am willing to negotiate the price a little bit but I am not interested in any kind of trade.
Had big plans for this but unfortunately got to much else going on right now, wish I could keep it and build it how I envisioned it. Only doing local pickup, not willing to drive long distances to deliver.

WILL GET PICS UP TOMORROW (9/4/2015)

Parking brake cable replacement

I have a 2010 WK. A few weeks ago, wife pulled up on the parking brake handle and there was no tension. I took off the center console to verify what had happened. The little metal piece at the end of the cable had snapped off.
I did some exploring and quickly realized that the whole interior had to come out so the carpet could be peeled back to get the cable out. I found several threads talking about replacing the cable, but I didn't see any complete write ups so figured I'd snap some pics and write up what I did.

Here is the procedure I followed.

1. Remove the rear seat. 2 bolts holding it to the floor. then tilt it out.
2. Remove front seats. 4 bolts each. Unclip power seats.
3. Remove Center console. Pry off rear cover. remove 2 torx bolts holding to floor. remove chrome plastic around shifter. remove plastic around shifter. remove center console by pulling backwards.
4. Remove side floor trim panels by using a screwdriver to pry up under the hold down clips (remove trim by front and rear doors on both sides)
5. Pull back carpet from the rear and remove nut holding parking brake cable to the floor
6. Remove cable from parking brake bracket. I used 2 flat head screwdrivers to hold the clips in and then pushed it through the hole (see pic)
7. Remove Cable from rear bracket. this connects to the rear parking brake cables.

To replace the cable was a little tricky.

1. Push front of cable through the mounting bracket
2. Push parking brake cable forward (make sure the the little hook thing is over the pin). This is in one of the pics.
Now it gets tricky
3. Use a flat blade screwdriver from the rear to push the tension spring assembly towards the front. Once you push it far enough forward, the cable will slot into the holder. I couldn't get a clear picture of this because of the assembly.
Now the rear
4. Pop off the connecting bracket and attach the rear of the cable to the bracket. Then you can pull it and reattach the rear parking brake cables.

Reassemble everything.

Took me ~3 hours start to finish.

shoule i sell my jeep?

I bought an 06 gc laredo X with less than 50k miles in july. Its ok, but its blah (it has the 6 cd changer radio but no satellite radio and no aux port). The color is khaki and it looks like dirt (see my earlier post about the color). I've just made 2 payments on it when saw a blk 06 limited for sale thats $3k less than what i owe on the laredo, but it has 99k miles on it. Should i sell the blah gc and buy the other one? The limited also has navigation (which i want to switch for a kenwood double din radio. I would have to switch out the radio AND the bezel in my laredo to get the double din radio).

Installed KC Highlights windshield lights

I'm slowing adding parts to my Jeep TJ. I've had it a couple of years now and haven't really done much but get new tires, new soft top, and a tune up. I have 4 girls at home and one in college so my time and money are quite taken.
I go to work pretty early. That and the fact that my night vision sucks had me order some KC lights with the windshield brackets. I ordered the driving light option for now. Once I finish my bumper I'll put these on there and get some spot lights to replace them on the windshield.

Sorry for the large pics. I can't seem to scale them down on this forum.

Here's the new top. It was a tight fit but I base that on the old, original top that was on for 12 years, so...

Mounting the lights is a not a problem. The wiring required some creativity. I haven't searched the forums so there may be other posts about this. This is just how I ran them. The wires have to run under the cowl to get to the lights. To get into the cowl from the engine compartment I drilled a hole left center, taking care not to hit the engine harness.

I used a unibit, makes it easier to drill exactly the size of hole you need. If you do this make sure to drill from one side, then switch to the other side to deburr.

I routed the wires under the stiffeners when I could, keeps them out of the windshield wiper arm.

track bar bracket HELP

Hey everyone so i decided to tear out my trackbar today because the ball joint end on it was bad. After having extensive trouble removing the castle nut i decided to take out the entire track bar bracket on the drivers side. After dropping the track bar since the ball joint end on it was bad and it was off the vehicle, trying to remove the castle nut would just keep spinning the ball joint end. I decided to cut the old balljoint end off below the bracket where the rubber boot is. Now the stud going into the castle nut is still there and it is stuck in the hole to the bracket. I tried heating this up I tried drilling it with a hand drill then a drill press. Nothing is working and i managed to break off a step drill bit in the hole I drilled with the drill press. Then after managing to get the castle nut loose I then tried to retighten the Sh** out of it in hopes of letting the castle nut grab threading on the stuck ball joint end to pull the broken piece out of the hole in the bracket from the top side. This didn't work either. Anyone have any useful suggestions other than going to buy a whole new track bar bracket from the stealership for 200 plus dollars? Thanks

Soft clutch pedal

Hi All,

I had a soft clutch pedal a few months ago and it ended up needing a new slave cylinder. It's an internal slave so which I had the transmission taken apart I replaced the clutch as well. In short, the clutch, slave cylinder, and master cylinder were replaced about 3 months ago. Now I am having the same problem as before. I tried to bleed the clutch and it is giving me a bit more play but it seems to be only about 50%. Is it possible that I need to replace the slave cylinder again or does anyone have any other suggestions.

Thanks for your help!

RC 1.25 body lift question

Hey guys,
Just got the RC BL and MML today in the mail. Just a couple quick questions before I dig in.
Most have said to remove fuel filler screws and fan shroud bolts. I think there was something else....but cant remember. Loosen tranny to skid plate?
Also, RC uses radiator brackets as opposed to the puck type that JKS has. They call for drilling into the frame...which Im not too fond of. Anyway around this? Are they necessary to have on there?
Im sure Ill have questions when I get to the MML, but Ill wait til I get there.
Don't want to put the cart in front of the horse...haha.
Thnx

Is it okay to run without brakeline bolted down?

Found out that the PO installed a lift without extending the brake lines so I ordered the Crown extended braided lines from Morris 4x4. For the time being, is it okay to drive around without the rear brake T splitter bolted into the axle? I'm not gonna be wheeling.

I know my vent line is detached as well, which will be remedied today or tomorrow with a longer piece of tubing and some JB Weld.

3" IRO lift with 2" BB??

So I recently installed the 2 inch BB on my 01' WJ, and I like the way it looks and it is a huge improvement over stock, but I'm thinking I want to go higher! I was thinking I wanted a 4 inch lift but I thought since I already have the BB I could install that on the lift coils and have a 5". I'm almost at the point where I need new tires so it would be nice to fit a large tire size too. But to get to the point, what other parts would I need to complete a 5" lift that the IRO kit doesn't supply? Sway bar links, trackbar, control arms, etc.

Oh and I know I will probably get some hate for this but I feel its worth mentioning, my jeep is 2wd, so what parts won't I need to upgrade? I obviously don't have to worry about the transfer case or driveshaft, but do I need to upgrade to long arms if all I will be doing is cruising the local malls??
But please help me out here I have access to a shop and I can do the work, I've just never installed a lift like this. Thanks guys:thumbsup:

Mystery Cable

Hi guys.

I'm a new jeep owner, and new to this forum as well. I purchased a used 1999 Grand Cherokee Laredo about a week ago, and have been cleaning it up and performing maintenance. Yesterday, I found this cable loose in the engine bay, behind the alternator. I have no clue what it is, or where it's supposed to go. Any help, or suggestions would be much appreciated! I apologize if this was something that could be solved with the forum search, I just wasn't sure what exactly to search for. Thanks again.

Buying CJ - Looking for Advice

Hey all,

Heading to look at a CJ this weekend, and was hoping the forum could offer some advice as to the reasonableness of the price, and also any questions i should be asking or what i should be looking for in terms of problems or red flags. Honestly don't have any idea of what i should be looking for, beyond fairly obvious stuff, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. The link is below. Thank you all in advance for your help.

Buying CJ - Looking for Advice

Newbie looking for advice

Hello, all. I have a grey 97 Grand Cherokee Laredo, with close to 180K miles on it, straight 6 cyl (and that is about all I know). I drove it daily until a couple years ago when the lock mechanism broke out of the driver door. I'm told this is a common issue for that year/type. Part of the seat mechanism broke, too, which I remedied by dropping the back seat so it prevented the driver seat from falling backward. The Jeep is also rusting out, so it is not in the best of shape, to say the least.

I couldn't find a replacement door anywhere nearby, so it sat a couple years. I finally got a replacement door and seat from a 94 Grand Cherokee, but not Laredo. So, the door wiring is different and the seat is not powered. I took the wiring harness out of the old door. The panel pin holes in the 94 door don't match up to the 97 panel, so I used some sheet metal screws to fasten it down (at this point, I don't care about looks)

I tried to start it, yesterday, and it won't turn over. The dash lights come on and it runs its prestart check, but when I turn the key the rest of the way, nothing happens. I'm guessing the starter is frozen, maybe? I know squat about cars, so I really have no idea.

If I can get it started, I'd like to let my son drive it around town. If I can't get it running, I'd like to get rid of it in the most profitable way. I'm looking for any advice that can be offered.

Thanks!

Door Chime/Alarm not arming

08 JK issue... Constant door chime with keys out of ignition and alarm indicator light not blinking when locked.
Installed spot lights yesterday, went out doors and roof free...put back together and now the issue.
At first, keyless entry wouldn't work either. Pulled fuse m13 (WCM)...now keyless entry works but still the constant door chime and no alarm indicator light....
Thoughts??

Possible to quiet down the initial VROOM during startup?

Silly question, but I have to ask it :P

When I start my 2000 V8 in the mornings it goes VROOOM like I'm sure any older v8 would.

Problem is, this wakes my 2 year old.

Is part of the problem due to the K&N cold air intake? I have a Walker Quietflow 3 muffler installed, but it's not the exhaust noise... more of the engine.

Anything I can do to lessen it just a little? Full synthetic oil or something?

Thanks!

1983 CJ7 258 swap

I've been searching the web and trying to locate more information on the forum but haven't come up with much, been relegated to the mobile version for a while so searching kind of sucks so sorry if I missed any relevant threads.

With that said, I just got a free 258 out of a 1984 cj7 from my father in law. It only has about 120,000 miles, doesn't leak a drop, and runs really strong. I wanted to replace the motor in my 83 since it has over 230,000 miles and leaks like a sieveand the timing seems to be giving me a fit right now. My 83 is set up as a California compliant model with a serpentine belt and the 84 is a standard v-belt. Not being mechanically inclined enough to do the swap myself, I have someone going to help me with it but he had several questions since he's not a jeep expert. Off the cuff, what are the initial pitfalls or roadblocks in the swap if I want to remain with a serpentine setup? Obviously the water pump would have to be swapped as well as the fan. Is there any major difference in the motor mount location, the cooling lines, or any other specific systems I need to consider before going this route? I will probably have more questions but I was just handed this opportunity and thought it would be a good deal since the motor is free and runs really well compared to mine.

I don't have any desire to put a larger motor in my Jeep so any advice on this 258 swap for a year newer would be most helpful. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Gary

98 grand cherokee lorado XMSN issue

Folks so here's the issue (and I know there are a number of post on transmissions however could not find one specific to this issue)

98 Grand Cherokee Lorado, 5.2L has a mid range "whine" when in first gear that fades in higher gears though remains at a lower intensity when up to speed.

The front and rear differentials have been services with new pinion gears and backlash checked along with replacement of any worn gears and planetary gear alignment etc.

The transfer case checked out and only issue was the viscous gear that was replaced.

Any thoughts out there?

Thanks folks and have a good one,

wj won't start

Ok so I have a 99 wj that I swapped an entire 01 engine transmission and transfer case into.i rebuilt the 4.0 in the 01 and ran it to make sure that it was good to to go.I swapped it into the 99 and everything is hooked up correctly, however the jeep would turn over readily and try to start but will not.The camshaft position sensor was removed during the swap and I am convinced the problem is because of this.I know there is a way to find tdc by removing number 1 spark plug and all that.my question is can I do this with the timing cover and everything intact? The motor is almost completely hooked up.i know I'll have to remove the fan and radiator, but are there marks on the pulley for tdc? Please help!!

Motor Timing 180* out?

Hi gang,
After struggling with a no start issue this summer and finding a sunken float in the carb. it seems I have larger issues. Without disturbing the distributor (I don't care for the term 'dizzy') it seems the Inital Timing is about 180* out. (A lift of the lynch lid to Jeep Hammer for suggesting this) After detirmining this I pulled the distributor and checking the distributor gear it looked almost new.
In the past I've had a '69 Pontiac LeMans that fell out of time and it was the 'silent runner' plastic timing gear that had stripped and was evident by the erratic revolving of the distributor rotor. Since AMC uses steel gears and chain how could the IT slip to this degree? Or am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance for any help

Fuel cutting off

Need some help with this problem. 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport, L6 - 4.0L

While driving every now and then 1 to 4 times when driving my jeep shuts off. when I stop it will start right back up. have narrowed it down to fuel problem. I first changed the fuel filter, but then still did same thing so I then changed the fuel relay, worked for 1 day then stopped and would not even restart. I then changed out the fuel pump.

It is still acting up while driving, shut off but then as pulling over started again so was able to get home.

My question is what else could be the problem. I am wondering if it could maybe be the Fuel pressure regulator, or something else I am missing. It just keeps loosing fuel to engine. I have changed out the injectors like 3 years ago and up till now have had no issues.

Fuel cutting off

No Heat.

Just changed my engine, a few hiccups later.
Turned out there was a crack in the block. Put in some K Seal.
Ran it till it stopped leaking.
Put the heater on but it is not getting hot. Blowing powerful enough but no heat.
Any ideas guys?

Things to look for when buying a used JK

Hi All,
Our liberty is getting old and we are looking at going with a used JK Unlimited. Been a TJ owner for about 7 years and know them inside out but not as familiar with what to look for on a JK. We are not planning on wheeling it (ever) and it will be pretty much a grocery getter.

TJ it is usually frame rust issues, header on specific years and whether it is a Dana 35 or 44. What are the gotchas to look for?
I am aware of engine change to the Pentastar from the 3.8 but should it really be a big deal? Is there anything else we should be paying attention for?

Would have posted in the Jeep Buying forum but figured I could get more eyes on the thread and technical details here

TIA!

Feeling every bump on the road/rough ride

Hey guys and galls. I recently lifted my JKU 3.5 inches and added 35 inch MKT Baja ATZ tires but it rides really rough. Like I can feel every bump on the road and it shakes pretty bad. I brought the psi from the tires down to 40 and it helped a little but it's still riding rough. I'm beginning to think it's not the tires, I think it might be either the shocks or springs. I installed a Mammoth lift kit on it which includes SkyJacker Nitro 8000 shocks and Mammoth 4x4 coil springs. Do you guys have any suggestions on what it could be? It's really frustrating having to drive and feel every bump so I would gladly appreciate any suggestions from you guys. Thank you.

Parking/side marker splice

More wiring diagram mistakes....I'm going to end up redoing this thing in Visio before its all said and done.

So near the headlights where the loom comes into the grill area there is a white wire. Mine is cut, but it looks like it feeds the parking & side markers according to my diagrams. On my 79 specific t shows no splice, but my "CJ Models" diagram is shows it as splice M. Crappy supporting documentation only makes all this harder. But it's obvious how it should be in this case. Since that is all missing, can someone show me a pic of what the factory splice looked like?

Rear-ended someone....Want to upgrade bumper anyway. Bumper advice?

So the fiance rear-ended someone tonight unfortunately in her 2014 JK. She says the bumper has a dent in it, but its not terrible. Haven't seen it yet... I have never been in an accident that was my fault personally so I don't really know the process.

We have been wanting to put a different front bumper on the car anyway. Is there some way to have the insurance company write us a check for the front bumper and we go buy an aftermarket one, or is that not the way we could make it work and would they only replace with OEM Jeep one?

Also whats a good front bumper replacement? There's no point in us putting on a new one that we want to get rid of soon anyway...

Any advice?

Steering wheel off and steering feels loose

It's tight going straight and turns but seems loose when you have to make a slighter turn like a lane change. It's almost a drift feeling. The steering wheel is about a quarter to the right. The loose feeling is only in that quarter wheel area where the wheel is off, if that makes any sense. Maybe it's just in my head. I had an alignment done 6 months back. '02 with 245/75's 4x4 auto. Need info/ advice

I'm brand new to the Jeep community. I've been driving a Jeep for months on and off and now permanently have a 1999 XJ Cherokee. I love the thing but it sure as hell needs work. As I said I don't know much of anything about Jeeps and need some help on builds, what parts to use, what brands are good/bad, etc. right now it's a 1999 Cherokee Sport with no lift, stock 15in rims 215/75 tires with absolutely NO tread that need to be replaced. Looking for some advice on tires and wheels. Was thinking of getting these http://ift.tt/1hAHBGU but honestly don't know if they are a good deal or good quality. Obviously I'd need a lift and was looking around for some kits. Could someone suggest a good brand and what a good price would be. Also not sure where to look because ordering straight off the internet probably isn't the cheapest. Many more ideas just want to handle this right now. All and any help is appreciated!!

'97 Wrangler won't start!

Hello, I recently bought my first Jeep (or car, really) and it came in need of repair. I bought it from a friend's dad and it had been sitting for over a year.

My mechanic friend and I swapped out the Pressure Plate, Slave Cylinder, Radiator, and Battery, hoping that at that point it would be road ready.

At that point we tried turning it on and realized that it wouldn't even start. The battery turns over, but it just won't turn on. We tried jump starting the (brand new) battery, but to no avail. After that, I picked up a new coil, spark plug cap, spark plug wires, and six sparkplugs, but we still couldn't get it going. Then I picked up two gallons of new premium fuel and a bottle of Seafoam stabilizer. We siphened out the old gas and put in the new gas and stabilizer. Still no luck.

At this point we're both totally out of ideas, and I really need your help! I need this up and runnin by mid September, or I'm stuck getting a ride to college with my dad.

255/75/17 rubi takeoffs on WJ

I finished my lift install of a Fat Bobs 2.5" lift, Bilsteins, and new isolators last month and now I'm looking at replacing what look like tiny 245/75/16 Treadwright BFG A/T clones.

Want to put 17" rubi wheels on with the 255/75/17 BFG KM mounted. How much rubbing am I looking at? I thought I remember reading it only happens at full lock. I don't mind trimming some bumper plastic if necessary, just wondering how much would be needed. Figure I could weld some washers on the hub as a steering stop.

Rear Sway Bar Angle

I tried Googling it, and looking around, but had no luck. I'm still learning this stuff. What is the correct angle that you should be looking for on the rear sway bar? I've read some that say parallel to the ground. Is this the goal, to have it as level as possible?

If you can't get it perfectly flat, is it better to have the sway bar ends pointing up or down? Just curious, mine are pointing down towards the ground at a small angle. Thanks for any input.

wj led lightbar winshield or roof mount whats best?

going to be getting a lightbar soon for my wj most likely going with a dual row and spot flood combo. but not sure where im going to mount it yet. i keep reading posts about the winshield mounts giving lots of noise and some of the mounts are flimsy. then i thought about a roof mount between the bars also getting a roof basket so i might be able to mount on that. so i guess my main thing is where to mount and what mounts to get. if i go winshield i was looking into the bad apple tomahawk mounts they seem well built and they're a local company to me in ct. also looked at the loosewire mounts supposedly you can stand on them but they only make a 50 or 52 not sure i like the look of that size on the wj. as for roof mounts i have only looked at the 4x4fab works ones so far they look nice but pricey. anyone have any info they want to pass along it would be great also what are some decent lightbars the rigids are out way too pricey have been looking at the olympus versions also but there seems to be tons on amazon as well, ill have to do a search and maybe some more research on that later.

Got a question for 8.8 drum brakes

I have a rear 8.8 that I installed a couple years ago and I don't have a clue what vehicle it came from. No model or year info. I was just out there adjusting the drum brakes and the parts are fairly worn and I'd like to research ordering new parts, but don't know where to start. Any way to tell what year models had drums? Is it easy to convert a drum 8.8 to disc? I started to put info into online stores for Ford Explorer rear brakes, but so far I just found disc brake versions since I don't know what year to look at.

Thanks for any input

overheating problems. Help!

I have a 2000 TJ and it's been overheating. It seems to only over heat when I'm idling in park. I've replaced the thermostat, a cracked hose, and the radiator and nothings helping. As far as I can tell the fan clutch and the water pump are working fine. I know that the gauge is working and the coolant level is not going down so I don't believe its a head gasket or anything like that. Any ideas what could be making it overheat?

Dash and overhead cutting out

Okay. So I got something more serious going on here. This has happened twice now. Once while driving and once while just after start up. But my gauges all just die and the overhead display goes out. But What ive noticed is both times if I knock on the overhead it got everything working agian but the overhead is definitely being glitchy. So I assume there tied in together? Loose wire/connection? Anyone know what it could be? Do they share power source or is it that they both share a ground?

How long can Jeep sit idle?

I am curious how long our Jeeps can sit unused without the need to hook up a battery tender? If one is going on a 2 week cruise is that OK. I am guessing a month would be the outside but would like to hear from anyone actually leaving their Jeep unattended for a length of time.

Cj5 sbc wiring question

I am a relative rookie at engine swaps and restoration. This is my second project over the last 30 years. Things are going reasonably well but I am at the point now that I need some engine wiring electrical help.
My project is a 1979 CJ5 with about 88k original miles that has sat for more than 20 years. It had a carbureted 258 that had failed, which was the reason for its long period of non-use. It has a T18a. That motor has been replaced with a manually-choked, carbureted 66 Chevy 283 with HEI using a Novak adapter and adjustable motor mounts . It now has a non-electric oil pressure gauge.
I am now at the point that I need to wire the engine and really am not sure what gets connected to what. I know that there is more than one way to do some of this so I want to make sure that I have done it correctly. So I need someone smarter or perhaps luckier than me to provide some knowledge and advice.
All of the wiring behind the bulkhead connector is stock. All of the wiring in front of it is also stock and has been identified according to the bulkhead charts below.

The original 258 engine control module has been removed. Battery to motor, motor to frame and frame to tub grounds have all been made.
I do know that I would like to use the original Jeep remote solenoid as a part of the configuration.
My question is:
Which specific wires from the firewall side of the bulkhead get attached to which specific components (solenoid, starter, HEI, other?) to reliably start and run the motor. I know this subject has come up in many places and forums over the years. I have reviewed all of them but never have seen a definitive explanation of which specific wires do which specific components. I appreciate the assistance and thank anyone responding for their help in advance.

02 Jeep Liberty check engine light and transmission issues! Pls help! ?

I have been having a reoccurring problem where after putting the vehicle in drive and starting to move...it seems almost as its in a really low gear. The check engine light will come on and stay on until the next time I drive and the vehicle doesn't have issues, it will shut itself off.

I have had it to the dealer but until I got it there the problem stopped and they couldn't figure out what it was. It doesn't happen all the time and usually after being parked and shutting the engine off for some time, the problem goes away and everything is back to normal.

It has gotten very annoying and I figured somebody out there could point me in the right direction or had maybe had this problem themselves! I appreciate in advance any info anyone can give me!!!

TPMS Question

I have an '07 WK CRD (metal stems and old TPMS frequency) and I just put on some '13 JK Sahara rims and tires (black polymer stems and new frequency TPMS).

TPMS is no longer functioning, as expected. Can some of you confirm whether or not I can just take my OE stems and TPMS and fit them to my new rims? Did they change the hole geometry? I don't think they should, but also wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Jeep YJ body mounts

Ok guys, getting my Jeep ready for the road, and I need to replace my body mounts as they are just destroyed. I was thinking of replacing them with a 1" body lift, but either way they need to be replaced. My question is: Most of the body lifts I see don't look like they have the sleeves inside the mounts. Also, looking at pictures of the regular body mount kits some look like they have those sleeves and some don't....I feel stupid but I need to make sure that I get the right stuff. Any push in the right direction would be appreciated and sorry for the stupid question.

Dropped a bolt into engine... Where could it go?

I'm selling my CJ7 this Friday and part of the deal was that I would change the valve cover gasket first. I went to do it last night, and of course, I happened to drop one of the bolts down one of the oil passages in the head (where the pushrods come through). I fished around with a magnet for probably an hour and finally lost sight of it. It was late and I was frustrated so I gave up. Here's my question: Is there any way it could have dropped down into the oil pan? I'm sure it was a combination of bad lighting and just being angry, but I couldn't see the bolt in there anywhere. I'm planning on buying a better magnet today, but I'm wondering if there's any chance I need to drop the oil pan. I just changed the head gasket two weeks ago and I DO NOT want to go through that again. Thanks.

Dropped a bolt into engine... Where could it go?

shifting problems

I'm having problems getting the tv cable adjusted. I searched the forum and watched the youtube video, even used the haynes manual, and still can't get it adjusted right. The back story on it is, I replaced the transmission, got lucky and found a newly rebuilt one out of a wrecked junk yard zj, and my friend that was helping me decided it'd be a good idea to "adjust" my tv cable so it would shift better. Well now it doesn't want to shift hardly at all, it whines out and jerks into gear. I've adjusted and tried to get it back where it was and it's just not working. I need to be able to drive it because my husband's truck needs a wheel bearing replaced (have to buy the whole hub assembly cause of the abs) and just don't have the money right now. Following the video and the manual isn't helping, anyone got any tips? Ugh I could hurt my so called friend!

1st ZJ: To Build/Or Not

My first Jeep/Build/Project/Maybe, Also new to the forum:highfive:

:google: (Read many FAQ's regarding TC,Axles swaps, TB's, known problems etc.)

I was given by my awesome Uncle (free) a 1994 ZJ 5.2l Limited used for pulling seadoos to Laughlin, NV and was stored in Laughlin, NV in an RV lot when not in use. I'm contemplating a build for rec use around town and local trails. Several obvious problems which i'll post further down, I am hesitant to even build this up, I could find plenty of good condition ZJ's from 2k-3k.

I own a DD (honda 2011 Accord)

Specs:
1994 5.2l Limited
Color: Green
Engine: 5.2l
Milage: 186K
Axle: Front/Rear(TBD)
Trans: 46RH
TC: Quadra Track TC (NP249)
Brakes: All wheel Disk
Wheels: Stock
Tires: Street Stock (New)

1st Problem
Title/DMV Fees: $350.00 back fee's (Expired Jan 1st 2014)
Overall Condition : Some Driver-side sideswipe fender/Door Dmg/OK interior, Truck fires right up, Revs smooth, good throttle response.

Compression Testing:

Several Conditional Problems
1. DMV back Fee's $350 (easy fix)
2. Cracked Radiator plastic housing (New Radiator Needed)
3. Transmission cooler lines both leaking (looks like someone tried splicing
rubber hose to fixed an issue (New lines needed)
4. Fuel Relay has been removed, A speaker cable runs from the Fuel Relay
fuse box to a kill switch that engages the fuel pump when the key is out
of the ignition. I put the AC relay in place of the missing Fuel Pump Rely
and had a no start condition.
5. Motor Mounts crack (both)
6. Engine Codes TBD. None so far. wil update.

Bad: listed below are ALL the problems. I’m not wanting to jew anyone, nor do i want people to come look at and leave due to unexpected findings....i don’t have time for that.

Listed with the problems are the solutions to them which i was originally planning on doing, as jeep people know these can all be done cheaper if you can weld or do them yourself. I’m just limited on time working multiple jobs.

Both front fenders are showing rust in the usual spots. Up top and in the wheel wells. Top of left front is a hole. Needs New Front fenders Or flatty fenders was my original plan. http://ift.tt/1O7GeKm
http://ift.tt/1O7GdWK

Hood has some pressure dents in it from buddy sitting on it. Not warped or bent. But dents are visible from inside. Possible to pop out or poison spider vent to get rid of?
http://ift.tt/1O7GeKu

Passenger Right side Kicker panel, where Rock sliders are normally mounted. It starting to rust. And can see rust bubble.
http://ift.tt/1KGPtlV

Blower Vent Blows out of defrost’s and foot, But forward facing Vents don’t blow, you can hear it shift and try to open but it never does. research has lead me to believe its a blend door arm, Since you can hear the vacuum is working to switch it. common jeep issue unfortunately. research shows most people reglue the arm together with gorilla glue. or buy a new arm $20
.
Driver Seat Foam is Warn and compressed from years of use. Passenger seat is perfect.

Custom crossmember is bolted to the frame in the stock skid position, it needs to be welded to the frame in order to reinstall the stock skid plate.
Currently held in by 2 nutserts on each side. Other 2 are rusted once again...common jeep issue.
Frame has been fixed in Multiple spots my local welding shop over the years to keep it safe and from getting out of control- but 1 of the 2 above mentioned nutsert holes will need a piece of metal to reinforce the area for a new nutsert to be inserted.

Gauge does not Register Oil pressure. Thinking the sender is bad.

Transmission shifter works flawlessly, but the gate came off, and now the indictator on the shifter lines up with P when in R, R when in N, N when in D, ext ext.. just needs 2 spot welds to put on the gate again and to realign the indicator.

ECU still has the governor on it set at 78mph. tuner forgot to remove it and is willing to reflash it for free when sent back. (red rock industries)

right rear quarter panel has a dent
