How do you check water pump flow direction?

dimanche 9 août 2015

I took my CJ on a 5 hour haul, and realized that at highway speed it eventually overheats. I've been scratching my head over this one for a couple of days now, and I've resigned myself to replacing the radiator cap as a precautionary measure, and installing the overflow bottle and radiator fan shroud a previous owner removed and never put back. But neither of those seems to fit the nature of the problem, i would expect rapid overheating not for it to take several hours.

While I was digging through forums and threads I found that the serpentine belt driven pump is designed to spin the opposite direction, and can be mistakenly mounted in place of the v belt pump. I did have to replace the water pump when I first got it (coolant seeping from the weep hole), and now I'm wondering if maybe there wasn't a parts SNAFU that went undetected unail now. Anyone have a good suggestion on how to check the direction of flow to see if the pump I have on there is turning backward?
