Found a new (used) tranny!!!!

So after the ZJ being down for a couple months, I finally saved up enough for a used transmission. My mechanic found one in Rancho Cordova with 96,000 miles on it for $625. Comes with a 6 month/6,000 mile warranty. No questions asked. I swooped it up and ordered it.
On top of that I ordered a new, Fel-Pro 2 piece Rear Main Seal, Fel-Pro Oil Pan Gasket and a Standard Motors Oil Pressure Sending Unit...all intended to stop my "between the tranny and engine block" oil leak.
Now its time to order a larger than stock, transmission cooler. I found this one from B&M. Seems like a nice size 11 3/4" X 1.5"
Anyone got any input?

Just failed emissions, Howell fuel injection

I just took my 1983 CJ7 in for its first smog in 8 years and it failed miserably. It has the aftermarket Howell injection kit and the results came back that the CO emissions were 10x normal. The technician said that the jeep was pouring too much fuel into the engine.

Has anyone worked with this kit before? How do i fix this? I have the owners manual but it looks like it is all controlled by the computer.

Stock CJ7 Suspension Questions

Hello,

'84 CJ7 with no lift. I am replacing the worn-out shocks and in taking measurements, am wondering about my front springs. The spring pack has four leaves. The distance from the top of the axle to the bumper pad is only 3".

The back springs are a six leaf pack and the distance from axle top to bumper pad is 6". They have more arch than the front springs.

There is about 9" clearance between the 31.50 tires and the edge of the wheel well in the back and about 6" clearance in the front.

The measurement from the ground to the bottom of the rocker panel is about 2" higher on the back end than the front end.

I believe that the shackles are stock with about 3 3/8" from bolt-to-bolt.

I'm wondering if the front springs should have more arch to provide more clearance between the axle and the bumper pad? Are they worn out? If so, what should I replace them with?

360 engine swap?

So I have a 1990 YJ that is stock aside from a fairly mild lift. I have a spare Chrysler 360 engine that only has about 30k on it. I know Jeep in the past has had a 360 in other models. Does anyone know if this is a common swap or even a potential swap,?

And yes I am aware that means new clutch, transmission, xfer case and probably axles to handle the power and new springs to carry the weight. If there is a common set of parts used and some good write ups I'll give it a go over the winter, if not... there goes my v8 swap.

Hey guys, I was took out my axles (thinking that they were both the same length, silly I know) but on is about an inch shorter than the other. I was wondering which one goes where?

Jeep overheating? Kind of a weird question

I searched quickly and couldn't find anything, so please forgive me if this subject has been covered and I missed it.

So a few times now my Jeep (03 I6) has gone well over 210 degrees, but not when the Jeep is running. For example, today I drove home from work, temp gauge showed the Jeep just ever so slightly below 210 degrees like it always is, then I stopped at a store to get some beer. I came back out 5-6 mins later and when I started the Jeep the temp gauge was well over 210 but within a min went back down to 210. Air temp today was only in the mid 70's. I have the hydraulic fan as well as the electric and both are working properly. My questions are: 1, is the normal? and 2, is this bad for the engine/head?

I am assuming this is happening every day after I drive and then park in my garage but I just happened to notice because I only let the Jeep sit for just a few mins. Thoughts?

All stock '96 XJ here and somehow I lost that big plastic wing nut looking thing that keeps the spare tire secured in the rear. I know I could probably just use a nut and big washer to make it work but I'd like to keep it original for the time being. Other than a junk yard anybody know where I could order a part like that?
