Let me start by saying I am not proficient in testing electrical circuits and only because John's gauge testing write-up have I gotten as far as I am (thanks John!).
I have new fuel and temp gauges installed and I am getting nothing on either. Here is what I have tested so far:
Results in ( )
S to ground=68 to 72 (56)
S to I = 19 - 21 (21)
S to A = 19 - 21 (21)
I to A = 0 (0)
I to ground = 49 - 51 (36)
A to ground = 49 - 51 (36)
I have confirmed that I am getting 12v at the Ign power "I" lead that connects to the fuel gauge. I have a dedicated ground going from battery to dash and a dedicated ground going from threre to the speedo mounting studs. I wondering if I still have a ground issue. The guges I removed were square not round and did not attach to the speedo in the original way. PO had them epoxyed in basically. The new gauges are the round ones that attach in the usual way. But since the previous were not standard I have none of the original mounting hardware, washers, etc. So my question is, how should they mount? I am assuming the guage grounds to the speedo but the "I" terminal is hot and should not touch the speedo housing, correct? So I am also assuming that originally there were plastic washers, gasket or something that isolated the "I" terminal but still allowed the gauge to ground? Can someone give me some specifics about how to mount the gauges in the speedo housing so at least I can eleminate that as a possible problem?
Thanks for the help in advance,
Chris
