What width rear-end makes sense?

lundi 2 juin 2014

Im about to narrow my 60" wide 9 inch rear end for the CJ7, and do not want to outboard springs or anything in the front.

Front axle is currently a d30, but will be upgraded later on.

What is the widest (wms-wms) one can go on a D44 front from a waggy without having to outboard the springs?

I have found so many different opinions and measurements in my research that Ive got a million different widths in my head.

Would like to make the rear end 58" wms-wms to make use of bronco width shafts for backup's and keep it from looking heavily modified, and want the front to match (whatever width I use)

I found this bit of info

Wagoneer axle is ~61". Spring perches are 31.5" apart. That leaves 14.75" from middle of the perch to WMS (on each side).

CJ Wide track axle is ~55". Spring Perches are 27.5" apart. That leaves 13.75" from middle of the perch to WMS (on each side)

CJ Narrow track axle is ~52". Same spring perch. 12.25" from middle of the perch to WMS (on each side).

and if my math is correct, when cutting the ~4" off the Waggy 44, that leaves you with a 57" wms-wms axle.

***Long question short, what is the acceptable width range for a Waggy D44 under a CJ7 without changing spring mounting locations?
