I've been battling an oil leak in my 2014 JKUR. The dealership replaced the oil cooler (connects the oil filter housing to the engine block) on Friday (1/2/2015). When I went to my garage this morning (1/4) I saw a couple dime sized oil leaks. Since it was Sunday and the service department is not open I figured I would clean everything off. There was surprisingly a fair amount of oil on the transmission and skid plates/cross members. I was surprised the dealer didn't clean it off. But I wanted to see if I could detect any further leaks. So I cleaned it, and drove it around for 10min in 1st gear with the oil pressure in the 90+ range, I parked in the garage and took a look.
I left the engine running (queue the foretelling doomsday music here) as I used the creeper to get underneath the jeep. It was raining and I wanted to get everything hot to burn off the water. While under the jeep I only saw one thing that *might* be a leak.
The suspected new oil leak was from one of the two rubber plugs between the oil pan and the automatic transmission. When I was cleaning the rubber plug (with the engine running), it got sucked into the housing. Uh oh. I quickly turned off the engine, got a flash light, but the rubber cap is no where to be seen. Pretty stupid I know. Feel free to have a good laugh at my mistake...but hopefully when you pick yourself up off the floor from laughing so hard, you can answer a few questions. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
1. can I drive the jeep with the rubber cap inside there? (even in the rain?)
2. do I need to take things apart to get the rubber cap out?
3. will the rubber cap damage anything inside there?
4. anything else I should worry about?
