Engine snorkle, is it worth it?

It been reading a lot about the benefits of a snorkel in high dust travel. Last Saturday I went driving through the Ozarks with a friend, myself being the trailing vehicle I was covered in the a considerable amount of dust ( I had to stop a few times to let the dust settle so I could see to drive ). After the day I inspected my air filter and it was caked in dust. I know that snorkels were originally used in safaris for this very reason. So does anyone have any first hand experience using a snorkel during high dust
travel?
