Blinker Relay Issues

mardi 28 juillet 2015

Hello all, let me first start by saying this is my first Jeep, and I'm learning that it is a bit of an electrical nightmare... Most of the electrical quirks I can live with, however I have run into a blinker issue that I cannot. I have a 97 Jeep Cherokee Limited (XJ?) that the blinkers went out on. Easy fix (HAHA I thought), I bought a new blinker relay (Novita) and put it in. This fixed the blinkers, works great, however the blinker relay sounds like its blinking even when it isn't. It is beginning to drive me nuts to hear it blink constantly, so I went back and replaced the blinker relay thinking it was faulty. Same problem, but my old blinker relay never did this. (possibly the original relay, gray with a chrysler logo) To confirm: All blinkers work just like they should when activated, however the clicking sound continues when they are deactivated. The only thing I can see is maybe the new relay has a higher voltage? I notice my original relay is labeled as 12v, however the new one I bought says 12.8v. It's a mystery to me, I'm almost to the point where I'm gonna pull the relay to stop the mind numbing blinking sound... Any ideas? This is a really old Jeep and I'm not planning on taking the dash apart to rewire it, I also have the infamous "bad engine coolant sensor" warning and I have read that the issue on that is a bad solder behind the dash. Can anyone help or have any ideas on this problem? Looked high and low and couldn't find a thing on this problem, thank you very much for any responses!
