So as it often happens one thing leads to another and the next thing you know you have your transmission ripped apart...
I had oil all over the bell housing and the input shaft seemed loose. you could see the front input bearing was loose so I tore into it. The only thing that looked bad was the reverse gears. They are worn but not broken. there's no chipped teeth. I dunno what they are supposed to look like on the engagement side since they aren't like any other Gears in the transmission.
The syncros for the most part look pretty good. I only occasionally have issues going into reverse. This is my first rebuild so I have no idea what I should really be worried about. Obviously the gears could stand to be replaced but to replace every thing and a rebuild kit cost wise is close to a professionally rebuilt transmission any way.
Idler ~$75
Reverse gear $85
Cluster shaft $308
Front bearing ~$110
Input bearing $45
is the minimum I can get away with.
MR kit seems to be ~$300 + $160 for the gears + $300 for the cluster shaft. It's a spendy proposition.
Would just filing the worn teeth be reasonable in this case? I really tempted to just do the MR kit and maybe just the 2 gears and lave the Cluster gear set as is.
