So, this issue has been happening for a while. Originally, with the Jeep still under warranty, it developed a problem where the dimmer switch didn't do anything at all, until I'd been driving the Jeep for a while, then it would magically begin to function normally. Also, maybe unrelated, but during warmer weather, the issue seemed less common. Either way, dealership replaced the switch, problem went away.
Or so I thought.
Shortly after that, the same issue came about, but this time with a friend. Now the fog lights would work only intermittently. Lights wouldn't come on, neither would the dash indicator. Now, these are stock lights, so their switch is shared with that of the dimmer. The only thing not stock about my fog lights is they've got the super-bright ******bag bulbs in them, but they've had those for a while. Either way, dealership replaced the switch, issue went away.
OR. SO. I. THOUGHT.
Same problem, dealership fiddles with switch multiple times, issue comes and goes time and again. Warranty expired, so now I'm messing with it. WELL. Last week, I removed the fog lights to do some painting, and wouldn't ya know it, every time I flip the switch on, the indicator light comes on. EVERY TIME. So, I got my multimeter out, and I get twelve volts. I hook my test light to it, nothing happens, but when I check the dash, the light has gone out. I check the plug, I get about a half a volt. It comes back on. Twelve volts again. I plug in an led light I wired up. Nothing. Light on dash out again. For a little while.
Now, I've checked the fuse. Always good. I've switched out the relay. Same issue. The switch has been replaced three times. I'm thinking I should rule out these as suspects. Where to go next? I could just wire in a new harness, but I like to do things right, and I like where that switch is; it's handy.
Any help would be appreciated. I've been at it for a while today, and I'm stumped.
