OK, so last summer (late June) I dropped close to a grand for a new Supertop NX (factory style with square door's) I had to buy new upper door frames and skins too. Now I only ran the top until fall and it was cleaned, and stored in a soft top storage in my office closet. I put the top back on this spring and a month later noticed that the top was ripping at the stitching on the back corner. This was a very hard pressure area on the stitching, but they had no reinforcement on the material... all the pull from the top tension was right on the single layer of material and on the stitch seams.
Now 4WD Hardware / Bestop has been great... They not only replaced the top skin, they have replaced it twice! (Granted, the first one was because it came shipped to me with a hole through the top.) But we can blame the post man for that!
Recently I tried to buy the rubber protectors where the frame connects to the windshield as they had fallen off. Now I wanted to buy them myself as that is not really a design flaw, although there is not a lot to keep them on there. Long story short, Bestop sent me back to 4WD Hardware and between them they ended up sending me the entire bow kit as they don't sell them alone!! I really did not expect that.
Yesterday, I now notice that the side windows are ripping at the stitching! I almost hate to call them at this point! Am I expecting too much from this top? I mean, did a brand new Jeep back in the day have the top start to fall apart in a year? I drive all back roads, use it only in the summer, and most of this summer has been so nice, the top has been down! I take extremely good care of my stuff so this kind of pisses me off, I could understand this from Rugged Ridge or some other cheap replace-a-top brand... But I put out the cash for the best one I could get for the Jeep. I know the factory design has a few things that make it hard like the snaps, but I like the build design and the fact it does not use velcro. (although, I wish I bought the one with a sunroof...)
So, is it just me, or will a brand new Bestop fall apart in less than a year, and everyone just lives with the ripping seams? What pisses me off about it is that they used that edging which wraps a stitch in areas like behind the side windows where it is not needed, but along the bottom edges of the top where all the force to hook it to the tub is just stitched to the top material without any reinforcement. I mean I can see that will be a problem down the road just looking at the design... the top is made to be taken off, yet they do not reinforce the areas that take all the abuse!! I can not image if I ran this through a New England winter year round or took it up on the highway everyday...
So.. am I asking too much from this top? Does anyone else have these problems
