Hey everyone - I recently installed a new JVC head unit and Polk Audio dash and soundbar speakers in my 2000 TJ, which also got a new paint job.
During the summer, I usually just leave the top off - I have a targa-style top to cover the driver's seat. So if it's gonna rain, I just pop the seats forward and she's good to go :)
But I got NO bass. I talked to a guy at an audio shop - he had this plan to switch out the 5 1/4" for 6 1/2", mount a subwoofer, etc. He was a cool guy, but that was just too much - y'all probably know better than me, but in his sound room, I couldn't tell any difference between the 5s and the 6s, even with the additional amp.
So my "plan" is to install a Bazooka - because I can just pull it out:
Bazooka BTA6100
BT Series 100-watt powered 6-1/2" Bass Tube®
I don't care for my Jeep to "thump" - I just want some bass. I was going with the smaller size 6.5" because I'm hoping I can dual-mount it. I bought an extend-a-trunk that covers the area behind the back seat. So for day-to-day, leaving her mounted, she's hidden away - and I was gonna mount her "up" off the floor, probably to the top of the extend-a-trunk so any water that gathered on the floor wouldn't ruin her.
But then, on long road trips, I thought I'd get fuller sound by having an optional plug-in behind the passenger's seat.
I bow to the knowledge of the gurus here. Again, I don't want any rattling "thump" - it's just, if I crank up NIN or even normal rock, I get pretty much zero bass.
Space is a priority - the bazookas come in 8" and 10" - so again, asking advice on whether the 6.5" 100 watt will be enough to "fill" the sound out with the top off. I'm worried about going with the larger tubes (again) because of space considerations.
If anyone has any experience with the Bazookas, particularly the type I plan to install, any info would be GREATLY appreciated.
From what I understand, I can buy an "extender" cable for the Bazooka - so I can have the two different mounting positions.
Also, I've had the entire Jeep interior covered in DuraLiner. So please advise if I need to be careful about anything - last thing I want is a bunch of "rattle". I think I have a mounting position figured out beneath the extend-a-trunk, not so certain about the best way to mount it behind the passenger's seat?
Thanks very much for any feedback, advice, info, experience with the bazooka, etc.
I don't wish to "impress" anyone with any "thump" - I just seriously get zero bass, and would like to have a fuller sound. I outfitted the JVC unit with a 64GB USB stick filled with LAME, so I shouldn't have any problem with compression cutting the bass.
Again, thanks in advance for any advice. I also don't know jack about wiring - so I'll probably just hand it over to my friendly neighborhood mechanic who cares for the old girl and let him run the wiring. But in case that's not his thing, any advice on that would also be appreciated.
Take care and Happy New Year. I'm looking forward to actually hearing Block Rocking Beats for the first time in my Jeep.
