Hey All,
I come to you with an odd situation. Over the past few months I have done quite a bit to my 2000 WJ 4.0 in an effort to increase power, MPG, and offroad capability. While I am somewhat please with the result, I am wondering if I have "crossed some wires" (figuratively), as I was expecting a bit more.
here are the particulars:
Magnaflow Cat and Muffler 2.5" all the way
Spectre C.O.A filter with custom heat shield
4-port injectors (from a Dodge Neon)
Superchip Flashpaq (possibly a COMPLETE waste of money. please comment if you have experience)
63mm throttle body
2" BB lifts with 31's
Here are the problems:
When I hammer down on the throttle, i can smell sulfer, as though the engine is dumping unbunred fuel into the cat
engine does not seem that much more powerful than when it was stock
MPG is 16 around town and 19-20 on highway. I was expecting a bit better, especially on highway
My questions:
Is the low MPG (considering the work that is done) just a function of the larger tires? am I being unrealistic?
Are some of these mods not compatible with eachother? i.e. does anyone have any experience with such mods/ has experienced similar problems (low power, running WAY rich)
Before you answer, I will say this. I DO realize that spending hundreds of dollars for the sake of MPG is a losing proposition. I wanted to build the engine anyway, was just hoping to get a little MPG as well.
How can i adjust the fuel air mixture? Does anyone have experience doing this with the SuperChip?
I realize this is a bit of a rambling mess of thoughts, but if anyone can make sense out of it and has some insight, please let me know.
one more quick questions. when i switch into 4wd (be it full time, part time, or low) I can hear my front diff making noise. not quite a grinding, but definitely a metal on metal noise. my fluid is at the appropriate level and clean. is this normal? could this be a bearing issue?
This is my first Jeep Build and I am an intermediate mechanic trying to learn as I go. thank you for your feedback
