Ok so yesterday I noticed that the shifting in my TJ wasn't as smooth as it normally was. It was sticking a little when going into gear. Went to a movie last night. Came out and couldn't get it to shift into any gear. I push the clutch in and it feels normal, but there is a noticeable popping noise when I push it all the way down. There is no grinding or anything, it just won't go into any gear. Moves side to side, but that's it. Checked fluids, looks ok, looked underneath and there are no leaks anywhere. I did notice however, that I can shift it into gear with the engine off. And if I try and start it in gear it starts moving, with the clutch pedal still pushed in. I had someone push the clutch in a few times and I went underneath, and that popping noise seems like it's coming from inside the bellhousing. It's like the clutch isn't disengaging. What could the issue be?
It's a 2003 TJ with 135,000 miles. 5 speed manual. I don't know what transmission. I googled, and that year is supposed to have the nv3550, so I assume that's what it is.
