Since buying my 1986 CJ7 I have been fighting a battle with noise. For two years I have been tracking down squeaks and bumps. My goal was to bring this jeep back to the tight quiet ride it had when new. One thing that I couldn't get was the amount of noise coming from the motor. Yesterday was the last straw. I drove home from camp, about 25 miles of highway driving, and my ears were ringing. This morning I climbed under and checked out the exhaust system, and it was all good. I then took a long shot. I sprayed all the manifold bolts with liquid wrench and then got out my socket wrench. Turned out all but 2 bolts were not tight. I didn't go crazy, I tightened them, I then warmed the motor up and tightened them a little more. What a huge improvement! I can hear the radio. :2thumbsup:
