grinding going into 4wd

I researched on here about problems going into 4wd, most threads were about it not going in at all. my problem is grinding when going into 4wd. if you're going over like 20 it just grinds an won't engage. the slower you go the easier it seems to engage. i have a 95 an not sure of the vac line routing to check those out
