How much does RPMs affect engine life of a 3.8L V6 SMPI?

lundi 19 mai 2014

I own a 2011 JK Wrangler that came from the factory with a 3.8L V6 SMPI engine.

When I'm on the highway in fifth gear and with cruise control on my tachometer indicates that I'm at 3,000 RPMs while cruising at 62mph.

How high, is too high, for my motor---especially when I'm on the highway for 6-8 hours with the occasional stops for refuelling?

For example, say I'm on a highway where traffic is following the posted speed limit of 70mph or 75mph---I suspect that my RPMs are going to be high.

BTW, I'm running new 4.56:1 gears on 33" tires.
