Hi guys -
I recently started having issues when downshifting from 5th or 4th into 3rd. I basically get grinding when downshifting. Upshifting is fine so far.
The issue is starting to affect second gear downshifting as well.
I can use first gear to help alleviate the issue - ie, I "act" like I am downshifting from 4th to first, but not actually go into first - and then it will go into third or second with no grinding.
I suspect my syncro(s) are toast and its probably time for a rebuild. To keep costs low I may just look for a used one to swap out. And maybe rebuild the other one as time allows and I learn the process
Anyways can anyone explain why first can help alleviate the grinding? Also any other insight that folks might have is greatly appreciated.
Thanks all. Clint
