It's been a long road with this zj and the road only keeps getting longer. I initially bought it with some old worn down 33x12.5 BFG mud terrains on a skyjacker hydro 7000 (I'm assuming 3") lift. Late last year I bought some 33x12.5 Duratracs to replace them and some flat black pro comp alloy wheels to replace the rusted out cragars that were on it (shed quite a few pounds too, shame it does nothing for mpg lol.) Well in December with about 100mi TOP on the new wheel's and tires the transmission crossmember fell out of the passenger side of the body. The beast sat until 2 days ago when I finally got it back from a family friend that does body/frame work. He welded in a new section of frame for me because I just didn't trust doing that myself even tho I'm a certified mig welder lol..
Anyways long story short I've been reading up and it seems like the idiot kid that owned this thing before me knew nothing of the suspension issues that come along with a lifted jeep. He trimmed out the fenders to clearance the 33's, which is fine, but he did nothing with the driveshafts and the control arms have shot bushings, as well as the entire suspension has cross threaded bolts on it so it wobbles around terribly. Upon reading into it, I would imagine the larger tires with basically stock suspension would account to the fact that I snapped the rear drive shaft last year and the fact that the new 33's with full tread (measuring out to be FAR larger than the worn down bfg's) have increased the vibrations due to bad pinion angles and whatnot.
My question here is what's the cheapest way to go about fixing this? I don't want to drop $600 on a new driveshaft for this thing. Honestly I'm not sure how long it'll last me until the body falls off so I'm trying to keep things cheap and simple. I've already tightened up the steering box to get some of the awful steering back in check a little, I can actually drive with one hand now. I have some spare control arms the idiot kid gave me that I'll try getting on as well when I get some of the bolts cut off.. What else can I do short of pulling the front drive shaft off all together? Which I'm not opposed too, except I may want 4wd in the next couple months. It's got a LOT of slop in it, is that normal when it's parked? Somehow I don't think so, but can't remember..
Also on another note, passenger door has zero power. Where do I start digging on that one? Door jamb has no broken wires that I can see. It's just one of a very long list of electrical issues with this thing.. Biggest one being that the radio wont turn on now, but when it used to work the brake pedal would cause it to cut out (no freakin joke). That same surge seems to be messing with the overhead display, as it will cut in and out at random. And the little HUD under the climate control stopped working. As well as the climate control randomly turns itself on.. LOL I'm at a loss here....
This is what it looks like with said tire/lift setup taken yesterday (photobucket is failing as always, I'll fix the link later if it decides to work)
