Hello everyone. I have a question and possibly a favor to ask of the area Jeep community.
I've had my 1998 TJ since it was brand new, I got it in Oct. 1997. I wheeled it some for its first few years, and it was my daily driver until Feb. 2013 when one of the rear control arm brackets broke off the frame due to rust. Up til then, I'd done my own maintenance (other than washing it obviously) and repairs on it, and I've got a lot of sentimental/emotional investment in it as I'm sure many of you can understand.
It's got 168,000 miles on it and I fully intended to keep it, repair it, and get it back on the road. Also, a close friend of mine from Massachusetts (I'm originally from there) who is heavily into Jeeps and wheeling even went so far as to offer to come out this way with a section of frame rail and weld it in for me, to repair the frame, as my birthday present last year. So far we haven't found the right time for that to happen yet (we both have kids, so scheduling is hard), but that was the plan for getting it squared away. Other than that, all it needs is a new set of tires.
Until now, it's been sitting in my driveway, and it is still registered and insured. However, I just got a notice from my township stating that it must be registered and inspected within 20 days or else it must be removed from the property. It isn't going to pass inspection with the bald BFGs on it, and at the moment I can't afford to put new tires on it, and probably won't be able to until next tax season. So, after having this Jeep for 17 years, my hand is being forced and I'm scrambling to try to figure out what I can do inside of 20 days.
I'm trying to get hold of my friend but it's not reasonable for me to expect him to drop everything to come down here to take care of the frame on such short notice; and even if he did, I've still got the bald tires to deal with. (Actually, the front 2 tires aren't too bad and might be passable, but I haven't checked the depth yet.)
So, my question is… does anyone know of a place in the Chester County area (or even nearby Delaware) where I could store my Jeep at a reasonable cost, until maybe next summer? i.e., if someone has a large plot of land where the local codes are not as strict; or, if anyone knows of a cheap self-storage place where it doesn't matter if the vehicle's inspection sticker is current. As I mentioned, I can't afford much right now, but I could potentially offset the cost of storage by taking it off the insurance and canceling the registration. I would feel comfortable driving it short distances to get it where it needs to go, I just don't have anyplace to put it where it will be safe and not cause problems until I can get it taken care of.
If anyone can help, PLEASE PM me. Thank you!!
