Like a lot of Wrangler owners, I was wanting some more secure storage space.
And like a lot of Wrangler owners, a Tuffy cargo box wasn't in the budget.
With the help of a friend we installed this plywood cargo box. The top and the rear "tailgate" are hinged using piano hinges and there is a hasp for a padlock. It's bolted to the floor using the factory rear seat threaded fittings.
Though its clearly not as secure as a metal box, with the Jeep hatch closed and locked it would take a fair amount of time and effort to get into. I also installed 6 stainless steel tie down rings so that I can bungie coolers or bulkier items on top. The recessed fold down door gives me a nice little space to carry a couple of bags of groceries or small items without needing to open the box. Total investment is right at $100 and a few hours of labor including carpeting and install.
