Hello.. long time lurker to the Jeep forums here. I've owned a few Jeeps and currently have a bit of a dillema with my 2005 Jeep Liberty Lmtd (91000km ). This past winter my trans differential failed (blew up I guess is more accurate lol) while driving on the highway. I've been at odds with the vehicle ever since, debating investing more money or going for something new. I had a new differential put in for around $1500 from Jeep dealership because I just needed it functional, and everything seemed to be smooth again (although I notice the trans does seems the slighest bit louder). My Jeep dealership said they would guarantee the diff for 1 year which seems reasonable. They also told me I needed new trans cooler lines and a new oil pan put in which would have added on another $1000, I declined until I decide what to do with the vehicle long term.
Now when I drive the vehicle, it drives absolutely great for about 30 minutes, then I start to notice a progressively louder squealing that seems to be in sync with the wheel rotation somewhere. By 45 min driving I want to stop because the sound is so bad. I don't remember having this problem before the trans problem.. so took it back to the dealership and asked them what's up. They tested the work they did.. said it's all ok... but now said that I need front brakes done? I'm curious why they didn't notice that the first time I took it in though? Also, are things like oil pan, trans lines things that typically fail?? This vehicle is in pretty good shape with low miles. I hate the feeling of getting ripped off by the dealership if it's something I don't really need.
I've got no problem throwing another 2k at this vehicle IF It will get me another 1 or 2 years out of it, but it seems a big if right now. Would appreciate any opinions from you guys what you think the sound is, can it be as simple as front brakes? It also crossed my mind that some sort of brake friction or something might have caused the diff to fail in the first place. It seemed very strange because I was driving a consistent speed for like 15 min on the highway at the time???
