Alright so i just picked up a 04 JGC laredo, 168k, 4.0 4wd for $1300.
99% rust free very surprised, everything works, ac/heat, all windows, all doors, no oil in coolant res or radiator, clean oil, etc.
drove it home 80 miles and noticed it needs some attention.
1st off the exhaust rusted through and fell off at the cat on the previous owner.
the air intake needs the pipe that goes from the air box to the throttle body not sure how this thing cracked apart , looks like something was on top of air box and hood was shut. .
after getting close to home and off the highway i noticed that it was hesitating idling rough. not sure if its due to the intake/exhaust parts missing/broken thats causing this problem or if it needs pcm, fuel pump, filter or tps sensor. i dont see any CEL. also the jeep doesnt seem to want to down shift on highway, i have to turn the OD off to down shift up hills.
Also seems to have terrible throttle response when letting off throttle and then reapplying seems like its in a neutral state for a few seconds then starts accelerating. cruise control seems to work either , light does come on though.
what are your guys thoughts on transmission flush and filter change?
also noticed when doing a sharp turn in the parking lot in 2wd that it seemed as if the tires were having a tough time gripping the pavement, granted they are bald. is this tires or something else?
Steering has some slop in wheel , not sure if its ball joints, or tie rods
lastly the thing did not come with a tow package need to install a tow hitch, wondering what the best bang for the buck receiver you guys recommend now a days.
Things i plan on doing in the next few days:
2 new front tires as these are worn.
Fix the exhaust
Fix air intake
add some seafoam to fuel.
should i do a trans fluid flush and filter?
check to see what suspension components need replacing.
rotors and pads all around, bleed brakes as they are feeling a little gummy.
see what this helps out/solves.
after that tow receiver
if down shift/ hesitation rough idle problem persist , look into tps ( mopar W0133-1877836 correct? )
any and all help appreciated, thanks in advance.
