So I've had my XJ about a year and a half, and in that time it has spent 90%+ of the time broken enough to where it has not been drivable. Like right now, its sitting because the steering column kinda just fell apart, and I have to put it back together. part of the reason it sits for a while is I have 0 money in my regular budget to fix things, so I have to pick up side work to earn the money to buy tools and parts.
When I had a patriot, and admittedly it was a new car obviously, I was able to go out at least once a month and do some exploring/get out doors. with my xj, its more like once every 6 months I've been able to get out, and then spend the next 4-6 months fixing all the stuff that is broken.
and its not like I've spent money modifying it. I have had 5 mods, and only one of which I actually spent money on (new tires) but they only cost me $150 cuz I could sell the old ones.
The list of repairs I've done to it are EXTENSIVE. but it really needs an engine rebuild, probably some work done on the transmission and even the t-case as well. and that's a lot of money to put into and its going to take me A LONG time to save up for it.
I guess I'm just frustrated that I spend sooo much time and money trying to keep it on the road, and am not able to enjoy it. a big part of me wants to sell it, and save up and wait till I have a big pile of cash, maybe buy a newer XJ in better condition, but then I will probably still have to put a lot of work into it... I don't know... Sorry for the long rant, I have 3 older cars, all with 170K miles plus and I feel like I put time in every weekend fixing something, so I don't even want to work on the XJ when I have the time and money.
